I don't see why it would ever need a fan given that the iPad hasn't got one.

It depends on whether or not Apple wants the computer to run the same as an iPad, or be able to push it a lot harder cuz it'll have fans to cool it. I personally like the idea of a super whisper quiet and cool running laptop even under heavy leads, but I guess maybe just fans running at a low RPM could help it a lot.

Yes it probably doesn't need one but the Mini case usually has one.

Depends what TDP they target. If they want a fanless MacBook like the 12" they can probably make that work like the iPad (7-8W) but if they want to target 15W+, active cooling would probably become desirable if not necessary.

I do really miss my fanless 12" MacBook and would jump at one which has two Thunderbolt 3 (USB4?) ports. One port was kind of a pain, actually. Perhaps another way forward would be induction charging.

A fanless 12.9 or 13" MacBook with slimmer bezels and a bonafide 15-hour battery life would be a Shut Up And Take My Money kind of product.

I am, however, also curious to see what Apple could do with Apple Silicon and more power.

After the 8th Sept iPhone event, Apple will follow up with a 27th Oct iPad and Mac event.

It could be fantastic portable machine again with AS, even more so if they take full advantage of the wasted (chunky bezel) space to fit a 12.5"-13.0" display without increasing the physical dimensions. Every little helps on such a small device.

I think one of the things that stopped them reducing the price on the original machine was the complex (expensive) custom terraced battery design, so if the Arm chips are power efficient enough that they can get away with just using regular cells that would probably help towards getting the price down a bit, too.

Yup. Generally I think the entire leaker community sucks monkey balls and 99% of the time have no clue what they’re talking about but imagine if Apple could actually pull off a 15-20 hour battery life. I just want it to be true sooo bad 😳

I could see a lot of what's being said coming true though, just the leaker doesn't have a track record to speak of.

I just don’t buy that rumour - why would they cripple this brand new laptop with one of the failings of the previous Macbook, by only having a single port? I love the 12” Macbook and have owned a few, but if anybody says that having a single port on it wasn’t a complete PITA then they’re lying. Even the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard gives you one port for power and one for peripherals.

Its never been so easy to pass yourself off as someone “in the know” with subjects like Apple leaks. There’s so much interest out there that anybody can do it and get reasonable traction on social media, but we all know there’s very few people out there who have genuine, reliable inside information.

I still think that the new Apple Silicon Macs should be aiming for hardware/feature parity with the iPad Pro as a starting position (promotion screen, FaceID, good quality webcam).

Wouldn't surprise me if there was more guesswork than leaked info when it comes to the finer details with most rumours.
