Red wine spill - comp still works

Earlier this evening I spilled a full glass of Guinness on my macbook keyboard. Other than drinking and computing, I now know from reading these forums turning it on was not the right move, but I did. I cleaned it off and then I turned it on and it worked at first, but I have an X over the battery indicator. It will work when the power adapter is plugged in but will not start on its only the battery and not connected. When it is on it seems the only problem is that it isnt recognizing the battery, and the spacebar is sticking. I cleaned the keyboard off with a very lightly wet paper towel and have it drying in front of a fan... other than that is there any advice anyone can give me? for cleaning the keyboard? Is the fact it was working with the power cord a sign the computers fine, just the batterys gone? What should I do from here?

My friend spilled a whole, large glass of redwine on her laptop PC. She's not really tech savvy, so she handed it in to Future Shop here in Canada. Apparantly they had to replace the keyboard and clean everything. However, it was "only" $200 (I had assumed it would either be permantly broken -->price of new computer or that it would be way more than $200.)

Anyway, she got her comp. back yesterday, and as of today it still working like before.

Check your home contents insurance policy and if you have "Accidental Damage" insurance then put a claim in.

Yep, hand in the electronics and go back to pencil and paper.

At least with that you won't ruin any expensive electronics, though you may end up in the emergency room with a pencil stabbed into your body. ;)

why do I hear so many stories of people spilling liquids on apple laptops???

are people really that clueless? no.. I think its that you don't really have respect for your hardware and in turn do careless things around it.

no matter how much or how little money you have or how old or new the hardware.. ALL COMPUTERS DESERVE RESPECT AND PROPER CARE!

Laughed so hard I almost spilled my coffee.
First, the "people spilling liquids on apple laptops" actually happens quite frequently with other machines, Apple's apparent monopoly aside. Second, I respect my hardware, just not my computer. The trade off between living life and putting my wee baby in a clean room lest she acquire dust, just makes no sense.

My mac gets abused, and just keeps on working.

oh, and one more thing, don't yell in the forums, it's hard on my ears and offends my Mac...

Good story

1. You made me want a Guinness after work today.
2. Note to self: Be careful with my laptop.
3. Isn't there an accident protection thing from Mac?
4. You shall save money to buy a new Mac in case it breaks soon.
