Was that a rude jab at me? I was only asking for a little more information, and adding the status of my machine. I'm not an Apple apologist, and I wasn't trying to anything that anyone else said.

Nope not intended that way at all, just a phrase someone used up the thread.

That sounds like potentially an iCloud bookmarks sync issue/delay. I sometimes get that on ios8 Safari.

Interesting, never thought about that and I'm signing in with my Apple account ID. I don't recall doing any changes while in Safari when it hung in Beach Ball mode. In fact, one time I waited a good 20 minutes and Safari was still hung. So I force quit and restarted.

I have had ios8 Safari crash while waiting for that initial bookmark sync to happen, the code for "I can't reach iCloud to sync bookmarks" doesn't seem very robust :)

Even when editing bookmarks on the MBP I frequently get an "unable to edit due to bookmarks being synced, please try later" message, no I edit bookmarks only for a few minutes a month so that activity seems to be pretty near-constant despite the bookmarks not changing very frequently - ie I get it even while in the editor but no bookmarks have been edited

Can anybody try to see disabling Javascript as a test? See if it plays nicely with it disabled for hours. Then try it again and see if it beach balls with Javascript running again. Just to compare.

I also wonder if anyone has any safari apps installed. I have adblock plus and clicktoflash.
I'm going to disable adblock plus first and see what happens.

Focus

I'm just trying to follow the thread so bear with me. Exactly what beta is everyone testing …

I chose this topic because its subject line – Spinning pinwheel with Safari – is most appropriate to what I'd like to troubleshoot (for other people, not for me):
cu_waitcursor.gif

Focus on released builds of Safari

Safari only.

Seven people – melburstein, zunairryk, skunkyjosh, applCore, Ronnoco, shenan1982 and phrozend – focused on incidents with Safari in prerelease 10.10. For the melburstein and Ronnoco cases, prerelease workarounds were found.

I'd like to know whether the other five people found the same symptoms with Safari in released OS X 10.10.1. For those five, just curiosity.

Released software only; I'll not discuss details of problems with pre-release.

Troubleshooting and explanations

When steve333 gets his first result from a sysdiagnose at the time of a spin with Safari – keying the chord for sysdiagnose whilst Safari is in front, then touching nothing until the result appears in Finder – he can open the archive to reveal spindump.txt and other files that may help readers to diagnose his case.

Side notes

I usually take no interest in topics that discuss mixtures of problems – things become too confused – but it should be interesting to have a methodical diagnosis for at least one case that focuses on Safari.
