At last, you can now pre-order the long-awaited game SPORE for Mac and PC.

Expected date is Sept 9, 2008.

I will probably wait until closer to release date though, after reviews. Somehow I have a feeling that the release date will be delayed.

Was going to ask the obvious question, "from where?" but found it myself on Amazon.

Bigger question: system requirements??

Most likely to be intel only.

However looks like they will not require Crysis like processing power!

"Q: Am I going to need a top-of-the line new computer to be able to play Spore?
A: While Spore offers a unique gameplay experience, our team is working hard to make sure Spore will be accessible to as broad an audience as possible."

I did have a pre-order, not anymore after this. I know it applies to the PC version, but considering that's all the Mac version is, makes me wonder if they'll port the DRM, too.

Damn, I really wanted this game, too. I'll just have to hang on fie Diablo3, instead..>

I saw that too...jaw-droppingly stupid.

O well, always the Wii version.

I've been waiting for this game to come out since the release of the demo videos. But, after reading about the DRM thing I'll probably wait 'till it's closer to it's release before I do any pre-ordering. It should run great on my Mac Pro.

The DRM they are implementing in Spore and Mass Effect is a huge turnoff, I really don't get why companies keep fighting piracy instead of spending those resources on improving their games (it's proven the difficulty of piracy has NO relevant incidence WHATSOEVER on the sales of a game).

I hate EA and their stupid DRM but Spore looks too good to pass out on.

You'd have thought that BioShock would have taught them a lesson. Seems not.

Tis a real shame, I was so looking forward to this. Hopefully, the console ports will be decent, as that's the only way I'll be picking this up.

Steam authenticates every time you open the game and that's no problem because you can choose to go offline.

10 days is problematic for some people though.

Bioshock copy protection has been cr@cked. So would Spore.

That was to be expected. BioShock's launch was marred by the collapse of the auth servers, preventing people from playing. I can see that happening here.

Just curious, did the requirement for online auth ever get patched out? I know it was mentioned....

If I were to buy this it would be on Steam or the Wii so I guess I'll be okay.

The amazon pre-order thing says Macintosh/Windows/et cetera...but when you check out, it just says Spore Windows and the box preview says PC CD...If I pre-order this, will I be able to play it in Mac OS X (assuming my specs are good enough)? Also, is it illegal to own a digital copy (for example, a torrented copy) of a game if you bought the actual physical CD, as long as you're the only one using it?

Technically it's illegal. Personally as someone who's very much against piracy I don't see the harm in it.

Yeah, I'm also a big intellectual property person. I just heard that for like ROMs for old SNES or NES games or whatever, as long as you purchased and still possess the original games, it's not illegal to have ROMs for them...kind of like making a backup of something like a restore disc. I wasn't entirely sure, was just wondering. Any idea about the Win/Mac thing?

As far as I know, it's not illegal to download the digital copy if you own it; what's illegal is to upload/seed the copy to everyone else, which is what you are basically doing while downloading a torrent.
I don't have legal data to backup my claim, so if someone has more info please chime in :)

I won't pre-order but this is totally on my wishlist... fortunately my birthday is september 24th so it should be in my future :D
It looks like it may be better than civ has ever been... too bad they can't make the iphone version the "full thing"

I'm going to wait and see what people think of it first..

If the reviews are good then I'll pick up a hard copy at my local dealer ;).

I only pre-order games that have a really good rep. already (read: GTA IV/Halo 3)..

yay, EA has bowed to gamer pressure and stopped the stupid 10 day activation thingy!

not the best solution, but a better one.
Not a huge gamer here, but my wife and I have been waiting for Spore since we first heard of it. A few questions about the link above to those who know more about these things:
1) Has there been any other confirmation of the new, benevolent DRM regime? I really don't like software calling home.

2) Does "3 computers at a time" mean my wife and I can share one copy?

3) Does anyone know how to contact EA to feedback my feelings on this? I think they should know that they almost lost a sale with this DRM thing, and they've still delayed a sale until I can confirm they're not being completely draconian about this.
