I’m an avid Apple user and with this new update is Spotify or Apple Music better? Keep in mind I’m using on Apple Watch

I’ve been a Spotify user for the last several years, but the Apple Music improvements in iOS 14 have me rethinking things.

Apple Music is offering a free monthly trial right now (at least they offered one to me), so I’ve been trying it out and really enjoying it.

With iOS 14, Apple Music is *FINALLY* at the place it should’ve been when it first launched.

All I know is when they finally allowed Spotify on Apple Watch’s a while back it didn’t work that well

I get Apple Music for free as part of my mobile plan so it's Apple Music for me. However, Spotify's algorithms for playing music that I like are miles better than Apple Music. I feel Apple Music is skewed towards rap and pop music, which is not my preferred genre.
I do like how Apple Music is integrated with my other apple devices.

I periodically give AM a try but always end up staying with Spotify. Love the user generated playlists and broader exposure to non-USA focused music. Just more of what I want.

I was the same. Always used Spotify but used to check in on AM every few months just to see if it had gotten any better.

Check out now, though, cause it’s got some legitimately good new features that truly make it a Spotify competitor.

Always an open mind. What are some new features that you particularly like?

Spotify by a mile. It doesn’t get all your album artwork wrong and it has a picture of Beyoncé instead of a graphic of a microphone. I’m still finding wrong album artwork from Apple Music before I cancelled it. What an amateur shambles Apple Music is

These changes don't address a fundamental need for me which is easily finding music. If I'm watching a TV show and hear a song I like, I can go to spotify and it's almost guaranteed someone has made a playlist for that show. In Apple Music, unless there is an official soundtrack I likely won't be able to find it.

Very true. Spotify still has some major advantages over Apple Music, and maybe it’s because I’m just getting tired of Spotify’s recent UI changes and want something new, but I’m really enjoying Apple Music right now.

Up until iOS 14, I would download AM every few months and spend about 5 minutes messing with it before deleting it.

No question that Spotify's UI is in desperate need of an update.

I literally told someone today that I think they’ve been trolling us for the last year and a half because every time they make a UI change, it’s almost always for the worse.

Today, for example, they changed the look of collaborative playlists and, instead of showing WHO contributed each track, it just shows their profile picture and not their name. Huge downgrade. So dumb.

I'm still annoyed they removed showing when a shared playlist was last updated.

In terms of Spotify vs AM, it really does come down to individual needs. One is not objectively better than the other IMO.

YES! Why in the world would they remove that information??

I also hate how they removed the “alphabet selector” on the right side of the screen that would allow you to quickly skip down to “artists starting with M” in favor of whatever that new thing is. Terrible.

Just a lotta bad UI changes recently. Still, Spotify Connect and collaborative playlists and the user generated playlists are so good.

I'm using Apple Music because of its perfect integration with Siri and every Apple device in my household. I also love the way it integrates with my existing music library (ripped from CDs, etc.). Generally speaking I'm very pleased with it, but there's something I'm not sure about. Does it really learn from my listening history and from my like/dislike tags? After more than a year of telling Siri "I love this song" or "I don't like this song", it still suggests music 60% of which I hate. I would think that by now she should already have a pretty good idea of what artists and what style of music I like.
Is Spotify better in this respect?

It certainly is.

I can't speak to AM, but I can say that I am indeed impressed with the playlists that Spotify auto creates based on what it thinks I would like.

Spotify here. I gave Apple Music a try, it is nice and easy to use, but I can find and discover music better with Spotify. Also Spotify Connect is a big plus. Strangely I like the UI better also on Spotify, both desktop and mobile.
I like the podcasts too.

I’m so floored that Apple Music doesn’t have a Spotify Connect feature. The iTunes Remote app is such a clunky and dumb workaround to use your iPhone to control music coming from a Mac.

For me, the choice was easy. When I was comparing Spotify and AM, AM had a bigger selection of the music I listen the most to and that's the main selling point for me, plus I don't like Spotify as a company but back then Spotify had better discovery algorithms but I think AM has gotten better at that part.

I'm sure that 99% of you are North Americans who preffer AM only becaused is more accessible and affordable to you, compared to Spotify, which is in comparison more accessible anywhere else like Europe and other parts of the world. That answers the question who and who. Besides, the reason why Spotify is not so popular with North America is Apple not letting Spotify be an equal music service on Apple Watch devices, which is real deal. Even for me, I did not choose to buy Apple Watch for the same reason, if it's not compatible with my Spotify.. or for that matter now the HomePod (mini) situation. It's one thing when i have a choice to make and when I don't have a choice but to choose only Apple Music. This strategy is off putting and I don't support it. Other than that good luck to Apple Music. ;)

why is it apple's fault that spotify's app is a bit basic?

I don't pay for either but when I can get a homepod mini then I guess ill sign up for the apple one, which in Portugal is only 12 euro. I figure its worth trying it for a few months to see if I think the games and tv are worth it.
