Why this wouldn’t replace it?Partially removes the need. Not everyone has tap to pay enabled. It’s a good fallback if you don’t have your card reader with you, but it doesn’t replace it.

Tap to Pay on iPhone allows sellers to accept contactless payments directly using an iPhone, with no additional hardware or dongles required.
Apple Pay requires you to double tap the side button on your iPhone and then authenticate with Face ID to pay.So what is going to prevent some thief from bumping their phone into your back pocket where your wallet is? I can see a whole new scam where people are setting up their phones for random 'bumps' into your wallet.
I take a lot more physical cards than Apple Pay and was part of the early access program. It works as you’d expect.Does it work with a contactless chip card? Or just Apple Pay?
Most cards have contactless. For the rare ones that don’t, I just type in the numbers.Partially removes the need. Not everyone has tap to pay enabled. It’s a good fallback if you don’t have your card reader with you, but it doesn’t replace it.
It would be easily traceable. Merchants have to turn over a lot of information to set up an account. Square keeps records of each transaction such as GPS location. A couple of complaints from some victim's banks and they would be shut down fast and have charges reversed. This is not a new technology. We've been using it for well over a decade. It's a solved problem. What is being introduced is the ability to do it without having to buy a $100 accessory. So what is going to prevent some thief from bumping their phone into your back pocket where your wallet is? This allows merchants to accept Apple Pay and tap cards without any special hardware.I'm confused. I've been using Apple Pay at Square NFC terminals for years.
I doubt there’s any. Apple isn’t doing any processing of the transaction.I'm wondering what cut Apple takes on this. That's probably confidential though.
I don't understand this. My wife uses Zettle for car boot so can already accept contactless, why can't tap to pay be enabled anywhere you can use Apple Pay or have Zettle/Square/Paypal etc. It's still Zettle taking the payment but using iPhone instead of a device. This will help lots of small merchants, I'm always waiting for the device to pair with the phone and in really busy markets with lots of these devices I've seen them fail to pair losing them business.USA only is a mistake. It allows plenty of room for competitors to establish market share in countries where tap to pay norm.

Potential Venmo killer?
Now you can just Tap to Pay when splitting a restaurant bill or paying your room mate your share of the rent.
