Fine, even if fan speeds aren't good, a general indication of level would be good too. The excited 5 year old sounds just don't cut it.

I think the whole point of the post is making fun of people asking, "what does the fan sound like?". How is anyone supposed to explain how the fan sounds on a forum???

Some things can't be done in writing. Fan speeds can be described, but a w followed by long train of h's isn't the way to do it.
 
Well, I'm just trying to figure out what's normal for these new Santa Rosa Macbook Pro systems.
 
It's hard to qualitatively assess sound as we are all in different environments. My fans are usually around 2000 RPM. In a silent room, the machine is FOR SURE audible. Not annoyingly so, but I can hear it, and the only way to describe it is whirrrrrrrrr (lol). Right now I have music playing on a comfortable volume (not blasting, but medium volume), and I can't hear my AC, my iMac, or my mbp.
