Got my MBP last week and I love it (its my second mac 1st being a mac mini). Gotta say my screen has NO yellow/green tint at the bottom/top/at all, No kernel panics or many of the other issues I see people having. Gotta say this thing is a def improvement over my old lugger of a gateway laptop

Just thought id throw some possitve vibes out there being the disproportionate number of negative posts

Yes I've had mine for a week and it's been absolutely perfect.

Easily the quickest laptop I've had particularly with a HHD upgrade and 4gb RAM.

Sorry to hear about others having trouble unfortunately any consumer product will always have a percentage of failures.

Used mine for a week now and it has been great, except:

-right arrow key doesn't work unless I press VERY hard (just discovered that last night).

- display has a yellow tint to it, especially in the lower part.

Other than that, absolutely fabulous machine!

Well, those are issues that would get me to immediately send it back! I am on the verge of buying a MBP but with all the bad stuff I can read here, I am going to a store and really going to make sure that I get a machine which is perfect... I can't tolerate using hours and hours on warranty issues, calling support, swapping machines, having tons of problems etc. I will make sure the store has a return policy, or buy from Apple online..

I've returned 10(!) MBPs over the past year! Returning them takes time and doesn't guarantee getting a good new one either, which means that a return and replacement may not be the end of it. The yellow tint may be an issue that affects all these displays, in which case getting a new display may not solve the problem. the right arrow key maybe I can fix by myself. Anyway, I'm trying to be more philosophical about it all since I can't afford to waste more time because of Apple's quality control issues...

If I got one with a yellow tint I would have driven to the closest apple store (about hour/half drive) and would not have left till I was happy :p
I only have only two gripes with my new MBP 1, heat (but with those fan ctrl programs its still silent but much cooler) and 2, I find that I have to press harder on the keys compared to my old gateway I have. Otherwise im in love with this thing, its a freaking piece of art :D

I think there are lots of people who have returned several MBPs or macbooks. I've returned many macbooks too and they're not included in the above number! Ha! People have called me a troll too, but whatever!

The more you return though, the less expectations you have and the easier it becomes to return again....

Seriously though, I'd love a display that doesn't have the warm/yellow tint but I'm not yet convinced that Apple has any like that right now. People that say that they can't see it are the ones that haven't calibrated to get crisp whites and their minds have adapted to the overall yellowish/warm tint of the entire display. With the default profile, you can't really see it easily. It's when you compare with a display with true whites that you notice it all.

i bought a 2.2 but it had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. i took it back to the apple store and upgraded to a 2.4 which is perfect. :)

Guess so, but I generally calibrate to a lower colour temperature because it is easier on the eyes.... so I am actually quite happy with these :)

I have a 15" 2.4GHz MBP reserved at the Apple Store for me to collect after work... I'm hoping to be able to add to this "no issues" thread, so watch this space! :D

what is with the kernal panics? i havent heard of them but i did have one yesterday waking it up from sleep. :'( can anyone fill me in? i dont seem to have any other problems wiht it though.

I have had the MBP in my sig for about a week. Not a single issue. I love it.

I bought a stock 2.2 MBP last Thursday as my first mac and have not had any issues at all. Its a fantastic machine and I'm so glad I finally made the switch.

In regards to all the people who are hijacking the "no issues" thread with "issues", there's always going to be a few bad eggs in every electronics release. I've owned a thinkpad and a dell laptop in the past that I had to return due to major issues. Sorry to hear you've had your issues but the few run-ins I've had with Apple tech support have been great.

As for the yellow tint, I'm not seeing it on mine. I'll admit that I'm not doing anything that is very color-perfection-intensive yet (and don't have that trained eye) so maybe that's all. Overall though, I'm super happy. :D

We're not hijacking - there was no clause saying that we can't be happy with reservations. that's what I am: happy with reservations! It's not black and white, I guess.

Looking at my friends 2.33 ghz mbp compared to mine, I dont see ANY yellow tint at the bottom/top. I Understand the whole your eyes adjusting over time thing but when you have something to compare with id think it would be noticeable. I'm sure you got a bad display, but im 100% sure I got a good one that does not have the issues others have posted about on here.

I agree you have a right to be upset (I would be too!), is there a way to see if there are maybe different displays/models being used in the new SR MBPs? Maybe they had a limited supply of 15.4" LED displays so they got them from more than one source? EDIT: nvm I see they are doing this in the yellow tint thread

No problems at all here besides a few random EXC_BAD_ACCESS errors from different apps, but I have a feeling that's a software problem from something I installed. Absolutely no hardware problems, I love it.

Its funny how so many people are complaining about hardware failures. I've been using Macs for years and have never had a single failure of any degree (not even a dead/stuck pixel). In fact I've never had a hardware failure of any kind Apple or non-Apple even with a custom-built machine. Weird.

*knock on wood*

I have used them for 20 years, then 4 bad apples in a row......thats why the gave me a free 17" MBP , however thats to big for my needs......

I've had my 2.4GHz 15.4" (glossy) for a week now. The only negative issue I have to report is that the default "Color LCD" profile gives the entire screen a yellowish cast. Switching to a calibrated profile has elevated my opinion of the display from great to gorgeous.

Truth be told, the Apple-supplied color profiles are never that great anyway. If you don't have a hardware-based solution, spending a few minutes with the built-in calibration tool in expert mode can make a huge difference. Every screen is different, but in my case, the default profile seemed to lack blue and push green.

I have had mine since Monday, and I have had no issues at all. Not a single stuck/dead pixel, no weird tint on the screen, nothing. I have noticed the "bowing" on the screen panel when it closes, but I do not consider that a problem. It latches in the middle, of course the sides aren't going to be even with it...they aren't latched down! Shesh!

This is my first Mac, and I can say for a fact that I will never go back to a Windows based machine (though I am sure I will use Windows for gaming while on a Mac).

I am absolutely in love.

Knock on wood

I bought my MBP 2.2Ghz SR on Saturday and, so far, it is absolutely perfect. It is my first Mac, too, so I am stoked ten ways from Tuesday.

:D
