A last question: would anyone of you still buy a Western 600Gb Raptor HD? Or is this an old one now? The price is not so bad.

Hey. Not sure about that SSD. You really need to research them. There are some duds or just old tech out there. Raptors are good, loads still swear by them but personally I think you're better with an SSD.

Sounds good - so I will reinstall my system with the faster Caviar Black HDs instead of Greens, check the speed and - if the whole thing is not too slow - wait until late April. Maybe there is some clearness then, which SSD is really good for Mac Pros.

Yeah cool. Try out raid 0 on them (It's also called Raid Striping). Google and download XBench it will tell you what speed your disks are running. THen make a decision what's best for you.

they do not boot in mac pros

Yeah none of the OCZ PCI-e SSD RAID solutions will currently work with a Mac. On their website, it says "Mac support under development". They may have a way for them to work by now, but they will certainly not work. Their 2TB SSD RAID PCI-e card solution is certainly not compatible with Mac.

It's a shame because those look like very promising cards with huge bandwidth potential.

If they booted and worked correctly they would be amazing. As of today ssd's still don't cut it. Too small too costly breakdown too often. The new intel 510 series has many posts that it does not work in the new MBP's. I like ssd speed but price, size and reliability sucks.
