But not with multiple apps. There is no way to have my music player take up the right 20% of the full screen, and have my browser take up the rest full screen--like I do on my macbook. (And like I can with Split View.) That was my bad, I didn't explain my issue well.

Also, the apps still lock together. You have to select which app you want to replace anyway if you always want the music player showing. I can't just always have one app locked in place and then do what I want with the rest.
edit: Nevermind.

I've been puzzled by Stage Manager and its inclusion on the Mac since day one… I sort of understood how it was better than nothing on the iPad, but it's not only wretched but even redundant on the Mac.

It finally clicked for me when I saw the first demos of the Vision Pro. It makes a lot of sense in that UI, and Apple is struggling to use consistent UIs wherever possible.

Unfortunately, the introduction of Stage Manager on the Mac has broken some Spaces functionality that I rely on, so I've been cursing Apple for a year and a half now over this junk… le sigh.

“Knee-capping” implies it had the function and Apple took it away. I think it’s more likely they don’t want to bother adding it because the demand is too low. Or maybe continuity camera (probably not carplay) is in the works, who knows. I doubt adding those features to iPad would significantly affect iPhone sales.
There’s also the fact that most Macs have tiny infamously crappy webCams, like the M1 MacBook Air still being restricted to 720P and having something like a three megapixel sensor.

Meanwhile, most iPads have the same front cameras and back cameras iPhones do and can record 4K.

Really no reason to use an iPhone camera through continuity camera instead of just the built-in one the iPad has.

I find it very useful on a 5th gen iPad Air without a keyboard or mouse/trackpad. I use it as my only portable device and use only the software keyboard. I used to use an iPad Pro before Stage Manager and I felt much more limited. I love being able to see previews of other recently used application, and when I want to work with multiple windows open it works well.

Stage Manager is also significantly better than split screen in portrait mode because you can stack the windows instead of having two really tall columns.

Beyond that I really like SM and haven't turned it off since getting my new iPad Pro.
IMO they should have just added a vertical stack option on a device that is often used in that orientation. This makes me wonder if the Mac has that automatic option, since monitors can be set in portrait orientation.

So far I like it a lot. Barely have I been using it but wow. Stage manager makes me not miss my iPad mini size since for the first time i can have multiple windows open and change it. Its not perfect which i could make the dock smaller and other adjustments

Yeah. I've always thought that there should have been horizontal Split-screen for portrait mode.

My “aha” moment for Stage Manager was when I found myself trying to do 3-4 things on my iPhone. (Typically, Reminders, Target, Amazon, and Safari with Walmart.com, when doing our monthly household orders.) Instead of flipping between apps, I can turn on SM on my 11” iPad Pro, and walk around the house as I add things to the appropriate store’s cart, and check it off in Reminders.

Using four iPhone-sized windows/apps is the best use I’ve found for SM.

You need in Samsung phone. ;)

Would love to see the pop-up view type of implementation that is available on Samsung phones like the S23 Ultra on iPads. I totally understand that for many the current implementation is more than adequate though.
