So is the general consensus that STO runs well on current generation Apple hardware?

I've been playing the beta and am really enjoying it. Sure they take some liberties with the lore but really, they had to if they were going to make a successful MMO based on Star Trek.

Currently I'm playing this on a Vista box with a mid range ATI card. Eventually though I'm looking to get a current gen 27" iMac with the Radeon HD 4850 and boot camp with Windows 7. I'm assuming it should run fine but figured I would ask before I commit to playing it on an iMac.

I'm playing it on max settings with my 2 year old MacBook Pro, so I think you should be fine. The resolution of the 27" screen might affect your performance since it is so high. It should look amazing though.

I am playing it on your eventual setup exactly and just bought my Lifetime Sub. It looks amazing and fluid with settings maxed. Having a great time in Beta (if only I could hear it with speakers...stupid bug).

Got the launcher working fine, just can't download the patch as it keeps quitting once I get around 11 meg downloaded (Of the total 770 meg). Any ideas?

Any company requiring a life time to be purchased before launch is fraudulent.

Huh?

Who said anything about requiring. STO is going to follow the same subscription model as most MMOs out these days, $14.99 a month or a few bucks off if you pay for more in advance.

The lifetime and 1 year subscription is a special they're offering to those that pre-ordered the game and are only good until the game goes live on Feb. 2. If you choose to take advantage of it (and drop $239.99) your account is good for as long as it's open and will never require a monthly fee.

This is weird, I think WoW is one of the greatest games ever (OK, I did get a little bored with it, but it took many years), and I'm a pretty big Star Trek fan, but for some reason this game looks pretty lame to me. Granted, I haven't played it yet, just going by the screen shots and descriptions of the gameplay, classes, etc. But it really doesn't seem like something that would hold interest and seems to lack the "charm" of WoW...for lack of a better word, and maybe the depth.

Because if they had any respect for their customers and had faith in their own game the lifetime membership option would be available any time after the game launched.

hey thanks!

I completely forgot to come back here like I said I would and post if I got it working....

well it works, and besides the annoying graphic bug and having to type in /renderscale 1.001 whenever it comes back (sometimes during zoning, or every time you log in)... it plays really nicely :)

so far had lotsa people with ATIs and nvidias both say it works good.

You really need to do some research, rather than just inventing stuff. There is currently a lifetime subscription available, and after launch it will still be available. The difference is that the beta testers get it for slightly cheaper than they would after launch.

after launch they claim it wont get the playable liberated Borg race either... that will later be a separate purchasable upgrade.... but for the price they are going to charge, I'd expect them to change this later and give the whole package for a lifetime membership when they will up it to $299, thats kinda expensive.

Sounds pretty cool. Is there a way you could macro that to a UIButton or something?

and it will cost more and have less benefits... so if they are so confident in their game why do they need all the extras to get you to fork over so much before you see the released game. After what they did with Champions I can't believe anyone trusts them

It will cost more, not vastly more, and that is providing early adopters who want to go that route a reward for doing so. I don't see a problem with that. Play the Beta, like it, buy a lifetime sub for less than it would otherwise be. Sorry, but why can't they reward Beta testers with something tangible (ie: cheaper subscription) as well as a few intangible items (in-game rewards).
