I am doing the Wineskin version on Mac, and I cannot get the Boost function to work. I get the little green light but when I press shift, it doesn't do anything, nothing changes, etc. Any ideas?

Erhm, that seems a little unorthodox. So just to confirm: the game works fine, but only the boost function doesn't?

We can try a number of different things:

1) Remap the boost function to a different key.
2) Try Arcade mode. Any different?
3) Ensure you don't have a joystick or anything else plugged in/mapped. The less peripherals we can remove to diagnose the issue, the better.
4) How about a different racer? When I was in my younger, more naive days, I used to use Ebe Endocott. I later appreciated the Skywalker master race. Gotta stick with the classics.

Let me know how you get on. :)

Just a bit of advice; for those that are trying to get the Mac or Windows version to work but with no luck you could run the N64 version via emulation pretty easily. I've no idea how the N64 release compares to the Mac or Windows version but I read quite recently in Retro Gamer magazine that it's pretty good. I can't check right now because I'm at work at the moment. Obviously you'd need to get hold of the ROM but that's not too difficult.

Thank you for the post! In terms of how the N64 version compares — well, very poorly, to be blunt. The PC version is miles above it.

It's something I hadn't considered though. :)

Yep, pretty much. I've watched some YouTube videos (it's been so long since I played this on an XP computer) so I know what the boost function is supposed to look like, and it doesn't look like that.

1) Tried that. Switched boost and slide and nada.
2) How do I do that?
3) I don't. Mouse is also not used; I only use the keyboard.
4) I've tried different racers, primarily Gasgano and some other one I can't recall, but neither of them work with boost.

Crumbs, you've got me stumped. Have you tried a different compatibility/OS setting on the bottle? Windows XP, Windows 98...?

I have CrossOver 12.5 and have not been able to get it working there. I'll try to set it up again per the instructions earlier in the thread.

May well depend on which OS you're running. The current version of CrossOver is 15, so you're a little out of date. If you're on the latest OS, that could well cause compatibility issues.

If the instructions don't work, it might be worth trying installing it through the latest trial and see how you get on. At least that way it will isolate where the issue is. :)

I'm on 10.11.6, and I just tried the Crossover 15 trial. Same problem: game works fine (even better than the Wine appify version) but I still can't boost.

Stupid question: when you try to boost, please can you press the 'up' arrow on your keyboard at the same time? Any better?

I've been doing that. I've also stopped pressing the up arrow, and then pressed the boost key, and then repressed the up arrow, and nada.

EDIT: Wait I was wrong. I thought you just meant "was I accelerating while pressing boost." (My accel is mapped to W.) However, when I pressed the actual UP key, I think it did boost. Game crashed (unrelated) but I will try it again and I think it'll work. Any clue on why + whether I can remap that? Kinda annoying to have to press four different keys at once just to be boosting.

I know this is a old thread, but to chime in, i played Star Wars Pod Racer (purchased at GOG for PC) on a iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) in VMWare Fusion in Windows 7 with full speed and all keys working wthout a hitch. Not a free solution, but in my opionion it works better than the wrapper solutions i have tried.

I wanted to add my two cents:
I got it running flawlessly on my 2017 iMac 27", High Sierra, with CrossOver and GOG PC version.
5 minutes installation. No need to custom hacks nor rocket science. Install it for windows XP and it works! It even runs at 5K resolution! Only caveat so far is that the intro/cinematic clips play at 640x480 with no sound.

1) Get Star Wars Pod Racer GOG for PC (https://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_episode_i_racer).
2) Get CrossOver (https://www.codeweavers.com). I installed v18.5 but probably works with other versions as well.
3) Install the game as any other PC Software but use a Windows XP "Bottle".
4) Set the resolution to whatever you like (I'm currently set at 2.560 x 1.440).
5) Crank all the setting on the video.cfg file to 3/ON.
6) Race it to your heart's content.
7) "I'ts working, I'ts working" :)
