Hey guys, so I downloaded the Starcraft 2 demo today to try it out and at first I thought it was ok just playing the campaign, the campaign is cool but then i tried the multiplayer demo ...thats when it started to interest me. I started to get flashbacks of my Command & Conquer days and started to really get into it - i played the one on one type and then the team type of multiplayer and i started seeing the potential in this game picturing team multiplayer games sending units over to your friends bases to help in defense going in full fledged to one enemy base with your team members sounds really fun, but i have a few questions to the hardcore SC2 gamers - How do you communicate to each other in team games without mic's how can i tell my team i need help or vise versa? How would you rate SC2 as oppose to Civilization 5 or just in general? Hows the replay value? Is it one of iMac's best games? How is the multiplayer community on it competitive? Good servers? All information would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!

To talk to your team members, press return and type. However, it's most fun when you have real-life friends as your allies communicating over skype. This is the only way I play multiplayer.

SC2 is a great game as long as you ignore the awful story. Infinite replay value as long as you never get tired of multiplayer. It gets pretty competitive in the higher tiers.

Not sure why you would want to compare it to Civ V, as they are completely different kinds of games...do you prefer RTS or turn-based?

Replay value is very high. Multiplayer never gets old, there are custom maps and custom games you can play, and in the higher levels it gets very competitive. The community is good too. From what I noticed, people in bronze or lower are rude, but silver and above they are all polite. Have fun playing!

Sorry, but, if you're a bit of a noob you use Skype.

Otherwise use TS or Vent, a lot better quality, and so many more options with them, it's easy enough to host you're own server too.

In terms of replay value, i'd say theres loads, if you can get some decent builds down in the multiplayer, the single player is fine I guess but it isn't what the game was designed around, the multiplayer was.

Thats what hell of a generalization! :)

Im in Gold and im rude as hell to people. ;)

Sc2 is amazing...but it will dominate your life if decide to take it up. It's probably closer to professional poker than a "game" with trying to read your opponent ect. They don't call it Starcrack for nothing.

I remember in starcraft I played a custom multiplayer called snipers. And also another custom it was like tower defense game if you guys know what I'm talking about, is there anything similar in starcraft 2?

I've tried vent before. Couldn't stand it. No difference in quality to Skype that I could tell (if anything, a bit worse) and the interface is a POS. Never tried TeamSpeak.

Vent is stupid. Skype is better. Husky uses Skype so is he a noob?

Also, see you think SC2 multiplayer is going to be fun but in the end it will frustrate you. I affectionately call it ragecraft

Just wait when you get cheesed.

Husky doesn't play many games other than 1v1, so your logic about him using Skype to communicate is kinda flawed to be fair.

Vent is higher quality, seeing as you can choose your codecs as well as TS3 which gives you greater security, control over sections and permissions and voice quality.

Additionally Skype has latency issues when having multiple people connected at anyone one time.

With regards to you getting cheesed, well, theres ways around that, you're clearly just not very good.

You sound bitter. :D

It's simple communication from person to person. I've had no trouble using Skype for team 4v4 games.

I'm 1v1 plat APM ~160. I wouldn't be talking about people's skills if you're gaming on an iMac

Huh? 1. Launch Skpye, connect to your friends. 2. Launch Starcraft. 3. Talk.

While not as flexible, SC2 does have ingame chat if you have a microphone. For those who don't have Skype et al set up it does the basics.

As for your class and rudeness it is one person's opinion. Liek any online forum on thousands you have some real great folks and some real duds. Yes, beginners are often in the Bronze, but so are more casual players. All in all the community is cool, but you will occassionally find yourself in a bad hour with gamers who bail just as the game starts and screw with you a bit.

I've never been able to get the in-game chat to work. Maybe it's better now, haven't tried it in several releases.

Hahaha brilliant, this is brilliant.

Could you please refer to an article somewhere, or maybe reference some research that you've done that states that better graphics when playing StarCraft means you're a better player.

Please, I beg you please tell me.

Thats pretty much the only difference when playing on an iMac, graphics are fine, but of course not Ultra (Medium-High). Apart from that there is no difference to playing on any other PC or Laptop.

We always fall back to Skype here. This is after hosting our own Vent and TS servers. I keep trying to push the supposedly "superior" platforms but everyone still prefers Skype in my gaming group.

Are there clans in SC2? Im not gonna lie this game ispretty fun im really happy to have gotten into it (but this is really just to hold me over until MW3 on my xbox 360)

Time to brag: I was in Grandmaster (Top 200 NA) for awhile before I let my bonus pool get to 180 :D

I have another account I got from my friend that was 18-10 1v1 now it's 79-17 :) so yeah, I'm a pretty hardcore starcraft 2 gamer :)

There are clans in SC2 but they don't exist within the game itself (yet). It's a bunch of people that come together and form a team. I'm on checksixgaming.com's roster. Blizzard plans on implementing them at some point (probably within the expansion). I prefer Skype to talking with friends while playing compared to Vent as it is much better quality.

As somoene said, press Enter to stat chat and then enter to send it. You can also "ping" the minimap to show where you need help by holding down alt+clicking the map/minimap.

Ok i bought SC2 now i have a silly question...after i buy the game install it and put the key into my battle.net account and download the SC2 client, if i just return the game wont it still be downloaded to play on my comp?

But whenever Husky does play team games, like custom maps, he always uses Skype. I'm not defending it, but it's fact. Husky uses Skype.
