Really I thought there was more to it then that. MS said the arm version of windows was only for them or OEM's and won't license it out etc.
No, I've been using Windows ARM with Parallels ever since they announced support. First with Windows 10 ARM and now Windows 11 ARM. Works great. No issues other than app compatibility because not all software has been updated for the ARM version of Windows. It's literally a one click install.

I have a kid who has been driving me nuts re: gaming. Minecraft was his first obsession, and it ran adequately on our old Intel iMac. Time came for a new machine, and I went with the M1 Mini. Great machine - crazy powerful (16gb RAM) - drives a nice 4K 27" screen (Asus ProArt), and is arguably a better performer than my 5K iMac (2017 model) with 24gb RAM.

But of course... Windows games. Not even new stuff... but things he "needed". So we went the Parallels route, and the Windows 11 ARM developer preview. Works for most stuff he's into at the moment. One thing that isn't possible: PC Link to his Oculus. All the latest info I've seen on that says it just isn't going to work (no DirectX, among other things).

I may have to cave and just get a crappy Windows box so he can do the things he wants... but I dread having one of those things in the house / on our home LAN. I used to do Windows network installs, etc., but after too many blue screens of death and chasing DLLs to hell and back, I went Mac and never looked back

...until I had a kid. Sigh.
I am in the same boat. My son has a 2011 iMac and running into FPS issues with Minecraft with MODS that he plays all the time. I don't really want to build a PC, as my older son had to wait til he moved out before I would help him build one, but looking at FPS on M1 versus a built PC is maybe 50FPS with MODS on M1, versus 300 FPS on a built PC. How does Minecraft run with MODS on the M1 Mac Mini? Thanks for the help.

I don't even know how the mods would run. Most of them require very specific components and locations. My daughter loads them, but she has a dell 17" gaming laptop.

I can confirm it’s easy peasy for win11, and can play windows x86 games through it.

I booted up Automation: the car company tycoon game and it ran surprisingly well (which is to say on low settings at 20-30fps) but was responsive enough to dick around in.

For something running through two layers of emulation I was impressed.

It’s not a great experience however.

Minecraft is now officially NATIVE ARM on Apple Silicon Macs ...https://www.youtube.com › watch

Also can confirm it runs beautifully. Especially compared to previous Mac versions which didn’t run well imo.

Though I’m partial to modded 1.12, 1.19 feels like they’ve added too much fluff to the game that’s supposed to add depth (no pun intended) but just feels really shallow.

We're not much help, I'm afraid. Before the M1 Mac he was running Minecraft on a mid-2010 iMac i3 - far from a powerhouse. So what he has now is an enormous improvement. I couldn't tell you what he's getting for FPS these days... he's also playing more Roblox because that's what his friends are into for online multiplayer.

Windows VM depends on licensing. I believe MS is stuck with a license agreement with Qualcomm.
No, you have been able to run Windows VMs on the Mac via Parallels for like a year now. You’re referring to Microsoft not being able to make a Mac compatible version of Windows for ARM because of their deal with Qualcomm. That deal is supposedly ending soon, but I still doubt Microsoft will bother.

I play a lot of minecraft on my M1 mini, Before, until 1.18 I used ManyMC as the launcher, since Oficial launcher was not native. it ran at 40-55fps on my redstone nightmare word (read as LAG AF) tried to install optifine mod for better FPS but had no sucess, optifine tends to increase FPS by a lot, and is basically necessary for minecraft java, I use it even on my windows with a 980Ti. Now on 1.19 it runs natively on oficial client, but last time I played there was no optfine mod available yet and forge (required to run it) didn't run at all, but if everything works, expect it to run at 60-75FPS in general or being optmistic maybe it can go all the way to 80-90.

Also You need to check which types of mods are running, are they for props, mobs, and itens? those generally don't impact FPS too much, but shadders will sink the FPS even on decent windows machine since it uses a lot of GPU power, the Mac Mini M1 has the equivalent power of a GTX1050, which is more powerfull than a 2011 iMac but basically a entry level graphics card, and since it shares video memory with ram on the M1, It's not very advisable to try running shadders on a 8gb mini, and still, FPS will suffer, A LOT.

If you really want a absurd ammount of FPS specially on old hardware, The ideal is not even going to optfine but sodium instead, it basically makes the game go from 10fps to 100+FPS, but.... it requires Fabric instead of forge, and not many popular mods are made with Fabric in mind. still a amazing way to get decent FPS on agging machines.
