Hello! Sorry if this has been asked about before, but I couldn't find any thread describing this matter.

So the thing is, I'm on 6.1.4 at the moment, and I am really excited for iOS 7, but there's one thing that stops me from upgrading asap.

What does people think, will there be any jailbreak for iOS 6.1.4 now that the 7.0 GM is being released, or will the devs jump right to 7.0? I'd really like to upgrade, but I suppose the tweaks that are in Cydia now will be less compatible/more buggy than on iOS 6.

There aren't any must-have features imo on 7 atm, such as iMessage and iCloud was, so I don't have any problem staying on iOS 6. That's just my opinion tho.

But yeah, what do you think?
TL;DR: Should I wait on iOS6 for 6.1.4 jailbreak, or upgrade?

Always stay as low as possible, it looks like a JB for iOS7 will be released first and then a backport for 6.1.3/4 but it might take some time.
No need to rush to a iOS 7 now.

Keep in mind, pod2g Tweeted the 64 bit will likely take some known exploits out of the equation, so....

we may be waiting awhile

I agree, but if using some of same exploits for existing devices and new devices, I bet the hackers will not release anything until all devices are covered.

Possibly yes, the 5S is indeed an important device in the sequence, especially as it is the first 64 bit device.

At least it gives me some more time to get used to iOS7....

Frankly for me, iOS 7 includes most of the things I jailbroke for. If an iOS 7 jailbreak comes out, I'll probably do it, but frankly it won't bother me much if it doesn't come out.

iOS 7 is far better than stock iOS 6.1.4, and frankly in some ways it's better than jailbroken iOS 6 (the new camera app and photos app are excellent, the new notification center is fast and well done, multitasking is better, Safari is MUCH better, etc...)

iOS 7 basically removes the need for: Folder Enhancer, NC Settings (for the most part), Auxo and LockInfo...which are basically the main things I need on the JB side. I'd still like SwipeSelection and I enjoy theming with Winterboard. iWidgets are nice eye candy, but frankly they don't add much functionality in day to day use, so it's not a big deal to me.

I see no benefit whatsoever to staying on stock 6.1.4 - any new jailbreak will be for iOS 7 (evad3rs specifically saved exploits for iOS 7). There is some benefit to staying on JB iOS 6.1.2, for those who use tweaks that aren't replicated in iOS 7 (I for one have no need for BiteSMS's features, but many here do...some people love .flux and such), but even then, for most people iOS 7 will be as good or better than JB iOS 6.1.2.

iOS 7 JB will be backported to 6.1.3/4...

That's good for you but most of us die hard jb fans will stay jb until they pry it off out cold dead hands:D

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'll stay on iOS 6 for now. I updated to iOS 7 yesterday, but restored in the evening because of the bad batterylife and laggy transitions. Also because of the tweak compatibility with 6. iOS 6 still seems far more polished, and the animations are not so slow, compared to 7. Hope there'll be a JB soon!

I noticed the control center doesn't have a toggle for location services. Is this right?

Is yes, that's very disappointing. Another reason to jailbreak (for me, at least).

Yes, exactly. I'm using NCSettings now, and it has like a dozen or more toggles that you can pick and choose from. Plus, the icons in NCSettings look a lot more polished than the ones in control center. While CC is a step in the right direction, jailbreak is still a long way ahead than iOS 7 in terms of functionality.

Unfortunately its unclear right now if NCSettings will ever be updated for iOS 7. Last I heard, the dev stopped working on it to focus on other things. The LTE, 3G, and Edge toggle caused all kinds of issues because of the various carrier settings. 2 updates ago caused the vast majority of devices to crash repeatedly (mine included) and that's when the dev announced he was no longer working on the tweak. He released one more update to fix these issues and hasn't released anything since.

I love NCSettings and I'm hoping the dev finds renewed interest in iOS with the new devices and new iOS! He's very talented!

The developer has said he will stop adding new features but also stated that he will keep future compatibility

Awesome! Good catch. When I originally read that I associated it with iOS 6. But now that you posted it, looks like iOS 7 support will happen. Thanks bro!

I'm on 6.1.2 and happy with it. I'm hoping for a 6.1.4 JB as I don't really like the 7. But even if I had to JB to 7 I'd like to have my option to downgrade to 6.1.4

Stick with 6.1.4 and pray for a JB :)

There is no downgrade possible on a iP5!

There you go, you learn one thing every day. Thanks for the tip :)

Hopefuly you did a full manual save of your blobs, because auto-saved blobs from cydia are invalid.

On the iP4 you can extract valid blobs for your current firmware with ifaith

I ditched my jb for iOS 7, I don't regret it so far.

There's three things I miss though;

Activator- purely for holding down the vol button to play/pause.

Nitrous - I'd forgotten how crushingly slow Alien Blue is without it :(

Adblock - wow, there's whole reams of ads on websites I regularly visit that I've previously been blissfully unaware for the last 7 months!

Otherwise, I'm surprised how little I miss, although I'll be jailbreaking at the earliest opportunity. I kind of hope they hold off a bit, until say 7.1.2 when it's been optimised more and bugs have been squashed.
