If you are running Windows 7 would you benefit from updating the boot camp/windows drivers in Windows? I suppose it's possible.

I would say running the Apple Software Update utility periodically is a good idea in any case to get whatever is most current. Whether or not it would download and install Boot Camp 6 in a Windows 7 installation I don't know. I am thinking probably not unless there are Windows 7 driver updates in there too.

Steam is causing my dual processor Mac Pro to become unstable and crash on Windows 10 so I'm waiting for an update. When it's not running the system is stable. I have to play GOG and Origin games for now.

You know, I don't ever remember seeing driver updates through Apple Software Update (Windows), not to insist that the W7 drivers have never been updated, but maybe they have not...

For those upgrading to Windows 10 (on your Mac) this is a good reference:
Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp

I'll probably upgrade to W10 when I feel confident I'll see a game or general system performance increase otherwise, W7 is working just fine. Thanks! :)

I think I mentioned elsewhere I don't know really. It just depends on if Boot Camp 6 also incorporates updated drivers for other Windows versions besides 10. I'd run the Apple Update Utility in Windows 7 to check if updates apply or not.

I don't think I ever got any Windows 7 driver updates that way either but it could have been my own fault for not running it to check. If everything is working well, I don't usually worry about stuff like that on the Windows side. I am more lax there given I don't use it a lot.

I did do my Windows 10 updated drivers install via the Apple Update Utility though. So it does have that functionality. I could not say either if it was ever used to update Windows 7 drivers though.

I should add I do not think I ever got any Windows 7 driver updates from Apple period which isn't to say they never issued any. I wouldn't know. I never checked.

Apple Software Update does occasionally pop up automatically with new updates, things like QuickTime, iTunes, and iCloud, no driver updates that I can remember.
