Steam thanked me yesterday for participating in it's beta program, then installed an update (build occurred late July). Program still hangs on exit, scrolling is still unmanageable, but overall reliability of launching games seems improved, and updates/file verifications actually complete now instead of hanging at 100%. Baby steps, I suppose.
