The iToys are a lot of fun. We get to enjoy all kinds of great content on them.
But I can't help but wonder what Steve's plan is for the content creators? The musicians, the painters, the visual FX artists at Pixar and Disney. The creative folk that require many many times the horsepower that an iToy could ever hope to provide.
Right now it feels a bit like Steve is happy to let that small market segment bleed away, back to the Linux and Windows side.

I think you are 100% correct. iToys and tamPads are the "future", according to jobs. Bollocks to the people who create the content to be played with on the itoys.

Not sure how reliable this source is, but according to the graph, iPhone+iPod+itunes (ipad not even counted) = more than twice as much as Mac computers, as far as revenue generated goes.

Of those computer sales, I bet less than 1/10th of the revenue is generated from Mac Pros and MBPs.

From a numbers perspective, who can blame SJ? The masses want iToys and tamPads. Let Gates handle the stupid creative minority :p

Then again, Apple has been pretty good to me. Who knows, maybe next month they will silently start offering matte displays options where there was once only glossy, a mouse that doesn't suck, current processors for a realistic upgrade price, and a new UI on FCP suite.

Maybe.

Just read Apple's official annual report and you know that the traditional computer business really isn't that important anymore for them. iTunes and the iGadgets around it are where the money is.

Agreed, given the numbers of iPad units sold, and the popularity of the iPhone. Still, I and others use computers and want new computers from time to time. Its getting harder and harder to justify spending a ton of money (yes apple is expensive) when they don't update the software/hardware much.

Steve didn't say "Mac" once ...
Actually, he did. Just heard him say Mac while watching the keynote stream. However, I do understand your point.

This is a time of change. Smart phones and similar devices have changed the mobile market. This month, according to SJ, Apple will sell their 100 millionth iOS device. This is a significant market.

Cloud computing and remote access is also facilitating this change. So much more can be accomplished while on the go. Cool.

But don't worry, I'm sure Apple will have computer hardware updates in the future. :)

Macs are very important to the iToys... at least for now. No Mac, no iToy apps. Don't fear for the Mac's demise until decent iToy developer tools are native to an iToy and/or Windows. :apple:
