Yep, there's a way to lock your remote to the iPod Hi-Fi. Aren't these great units? The sound is really good.

I use one not only for music, but for the sound on my bedroom TV that would otherwise have awful sound. It takes optical input too, which is pretty wild.

I will try to pull it up later for you as this just popped up and I wanted to reply, but if you do some key word terms in google there should be some support documents at Apple.com that tell you how to lock the remote to your Hi Fi only. Good luck. I just had to unpair my remote a while back so I know it can be done!

I can only imagine how cool one of these Hi-Fi speakers could be today if Apple didn't quit it. All the wireless capabilities, and things we can't even think up.

You can't buy a $400 unit that sounds like this from what I've seen.

Heh yeah it sounds great. I'm enjoying my first few hours with it. I like the speakers setting that pops up when you plug it in, that's a nice little hidden feature. I do wish the iPod was a bit more stable in the cradle, it seems to move a lot with a small amount of pressure.

I've done a few google searches and they're all about how to pair and repair the remote. But I've done that before and it still interrupts the signal from the TV....

I'll try to do some more research on the topic, because it's the largest annoyance at the moment!

I have two of the Hi-Fi speakers. Compared to the majority out there the Hi-Fi sounds much better.

I have a question for all the other Hi-Fi owners. I'm looking to modify mine by replacing the 30 pin with a lightning connector with charging capability. If the demand is there I may provide this as a service. I'm also planning to add an internal DAC to play Hires music up to either 96kHz or even 192kHz at 24-bit. There is an app that you can add to your iphone that will pass either PCM or DSD out via the lighting port. Apple's internal DAC can not play anything beyond 24-bit/48kHz.

I am currently playing hires FLAC and DSDs through an OPPO HA-2 and the sound is excellent on the Hi-Fi.

The one thing that thoroughly confuses me about Hi-Res audio is the speakers/headphones though - Don't get me wrong, I've a few Hi-Res albums & Sony MDR-1A's to play them through, & 2 iPod Hi-Fi's which still sound great, but how can changing the DAC / Source change the Freq response of the speakers at 16kHz, am I missing something?

This^^^^^^

I was wondering the same thing mate...I just didn't know how to say it because I honestly don't know too much about speakers.

My friends brother in law had one. I got to see it action one day and was pretty impressed with it. Like a few others have stated, its is really good at filling a room with sound. I am still keen to get one from eBay seeing how they are now at a much more reasonable price.

I'm still on the lookout for anyone selling them here in Oz at a non-collectors price level.

Maybe I'm missing something here... But with the plethora of BT speakers/soundbars... What's the draw of the HiFi and things you have to "plug" your device into now? I remember when it came out, I thought it looked cool and all, but the reviews really panned it and at $350 it did seem too expensive...

Of course, as is apparent by the comments here... Your Mileage May Vary... ;-)

Because it still sounds amazing.

Keep me posted. I've taken my unit all apart to check it out. Very interesting unit. The internal amplifiers are so small but they sure can put out a punch. If I can remember correctly, the middle woofer is dual coil, so it's a 2 channel system with the woofer doing L&R duty and independent midrange speakers

Still have mine, and still love it. Does anyone have any reliable suggestions on maybe making it wireless? I know it uses the old 30pin adapter, but is there an option to change it over to lightning (not wanting to use the Apple adapter, it sticks out too far) or bluetooth?

It's funny... I just brought this item up in a Facebook discussion the other day, after having completely forgotten about it. I remember checking one out when it was first released, at a local Mac shop (one of the authorized Mac resellers out there). I was impressed with it at the time, but I don't see a reason why I'd still want one today - except for the collector/curiosity value? I still have an iPod Classic 130GB silver, but I'm getting ready to finally retire it. (I went with the 256GB version of the iPhone 7 Plus and can finally sync my entire music collection into it, rendering my iPod Classic obsolete.)

I think for today's devices with Bluetooth capabilities, you won't go wrong with one of the UE Boom products. Their latest ones let you pair up multiple units to one source, so people can bring all of theirs together for a house party or camping trip or what-not, and have the music covering a wide area. Plus, they're relatively waterproof.

Ours was bought new when it came out and is used everyday with an Airport Express plugged into it via a Toslink cable.

Nowadays speakers are all the rage, Apple should have produced a range of these at different price points above and below and updated them with Bluetooth etc. They would have cleaned up the market!

I just found this thread. I got the little echo dot for Christmas and I pulled out my iPod hi-fi (I had forgotten about it for the most part) and I wired them together and I am amazed at the sound this thing puts out. It's now in our kitchen in an out of the way spot and it fills three rooms with great sound, no problem. I also love the heft of it in my hands--it's obvious it's built to last a lifetime. I found an old iPod I had stashed away as well and I'm going to check out how it sounds on it.

I use this with mine.
Bluetooth Hi-Fi works great

works and sounds great and streams seamlessly have since bought another for main lounge and set chromecast to home group(who needs sonos).
These speakers are going at a decent price and look like a work of art.

Bought one the other day. Looks like it's never been used, absolutely flawless condition. Has a slightly bass-heavy sound but is nice and flat otherwise (they really tried to make this seem "hi-fi"!), huge sound and classic Jobs-era design aesthetic. Looks particularly fantastic with the grille off. I have it hooked up to a 2nd gen Airport Express via optical for lossless sound, but planning to get a Bluetooth aux adapter for my Android friends and when I'm not near any plug sockets.

Question. Would air play 2 enable me to use both speakers at the same time?
Or I completely do not get air play 2? haha
