The Dell XPS 15 was what I was looking at, but I heard that the real programmers need a Mac cause of unix and the ability to run both operating systems.

I would be skeptical of people who talk like that, given that you can run Linux vms and program things intended to run on Windows. The availability of the terminal is nice if you tend to use a lot of command line tools. I think your concerns about the older design and ports are a little overblown, but they are asking too much for it in 2017.

Definitely checkout the 2016 15" MBP refurbs at the Apple Store Refurb site. Some really good deals and far superior to the 2015 for close to the same money.

We are in july 2018 now and new 6core MacBook Pro's are released. They are 50% faster and 50% more expensive.
The 2015 15 inch has magsafe, USB ports and a better keyboard. Is it still worth the money?

If you can get it at a significant discount as retailers sell off their stock - the £1,899 Apple's been asking for it new hasn't been worth it in months now though.
