Budget? Really? Here in Montreal the SE cost almost 700$ CAN with taxes. That’s double the price of, say, the upcoming Samsung galaxy A31 which has 4 cameras, a stunning 6.4 inches HD display with over 400 ppi, full screen, a beefy 5000 battery good for 2 to 3 days usage. Don’t get me wrong! I exclusively bought Apple products since ever... but this time, it’s a big NO since I’m in the market for a budget high value smartphone. Don’t care about cameras. I just text and make calls, and touch pay. Paying 599$ retail price (Canada)with a tiny screen almost impossible to text with.... By the way I intend to buy an iPad Pro with magic keyboard and, in 2021, an iPhone Pro. I’m far from being an Android fan but I mean, stop calling this vintage look phone « budget ». At least in Canada where Apple prices are nothing short of extorsion!

Everyone should buy what meets their requirements and at a price point they are comfortable with. That's the wonderful thing about the cell phones on he market now, tons of choices at different price points to choose from. The SE is the lowest priced new phone that runs iOS. If you don't need to have iOS, you have a lot of options that offer larger screens and other hardware that is better than the SE. The A13 chipset is the only real premium thing about the SE, hardware wise it's nothing special compared to other similar priced android phones..

It’s starts at $399 in the US, which very much makes it a budget phone.
Yeah but US is not a planet... something many Americans should be reminded. You know there’s something called earth, with over 100 countries... so if it’s budget in US it does not mean it’s a budget phone all around. It means it’s budget in US ONLY. As far as I know Apple sells iPhones all over the world; so calling it budget, without specifics, is just marketing bull... that pleases... Americans...

What’s your point here? In Canada, prices are more expensive? Try Living in Vancouver bc like I do, that’s expensive!

The IPhone 11 is $979, the 11 pro is $1380 and the max is $1520. So yes, $599 is absolutely a bargain for Canadian pricing on an iPhone.

A Porsche 911 is 110 000$ so a 75 000$ Cayman is an absolute bargain... yeah I got you... Very intelligent.

It’s a matter of perspective.

The SE is the most expensive phone I’ve ever bought. The price is something I had to think long and hard amount. It’s a difficult amount to spend on a phone, so it’s a considered purchase for me.

Almost everyone seems to be saying it’s cheap, it’s budget, it’s affordable ... it’s comical that people think of it this way, but it’s also understandable.

Apple products are notoriously expensive, and I guess we all accept that. In Apple terms, it is a “budget” phone even if it’s not in my terms.

And yet someone else from Canada and another person from the UK have chimed in to say that they think the new SE is a budget phone.

I find it ironic that you go on and on about those pesky 'muricans yet you seem to think that your little bubble is equivalent to the rest of the world.

So 2 persons in the world say they think that the new iPhone is a budget phone and, what, you talk about living in a bubble? Ah ah ah... what’s your line of business? Statistics I guess... Ah ah ah...

You seem to have forgotten to quote the entire statement which takes the quote out of context.

Here the poster actually said that it’s understandable and expected that Apple products are more expensive in general so at that scale it’s cheaper.

The iPhone SE IS A 1966 Volkswagen Beetle with a Porsche engine, with an Audi price range... Fact. What would people not do to show their Apple logo... And Apple, like others, making you believe their « portrait mode » is good for portraits photography. Any photographer knows this to be false. You don’t take portrait shots with a wide angle! False bokeh is not what makes a good portrait. You have got to have at least a 45 mm lens to do so. Unless you want your face look like an egg...

Budget or not, when/if they release a larger version of it next year, I’ll finally have a decent upgrade to my 8 Plus 256. I could care less the cost, I just don’t want on the notch train.

Seriously OP, what's so hard to understand?

iPhone 11 Pro starting @ $999
iPhone 11 starting @ $699
iPhone SE starting @ $399
iphone XR starting @ $599

See this link for reference: https://www.apple.com/iphone/

So yeah, the SE is in fact the cheapest option for a new iPhone. Now whether you deem it to be a "budget" iPhone or not, well that's on you. Judging by the reviews so far and the fact it's already pushed out weeks for delivery, I'd say it looks like it may be a success.

What iPhone do you use? The reason I ask, is because this is the cheapest NEW iPhone that I can ever remember. When you factor in inflation and everything else, it may be the cheapest iPhone ever made.

I am a huge android fan, and it makes me very jealous to see all the super cheap phones available in countries like India, while Americans are pretty much left out when it comes to budget phones. That’s probably why the pixel 3a series was such a hit. We aren’t used to getting very good value for our smartphone dollar here. Our choices are flagships or throwaway Android phones. This iPhone SE is a very good alternative to the pixel A series for people who refuse to move over to android. If this SE is too expensive for you, I don’t know what you’re waiting for because nothing will be cheaper that this phone if you want new and pay msrp.

I would believe anything that I can afford to be a “bargain”

it’s the point that with other opinions and differences the so called bargain phone could be something with higher value

I can afford the iPad Pro 12.9 512GB that would make me feel like a $399 phone would be a bargain

But like most others that do not like to be startled being down called saying that their higher values are being cheaped we shouldn’t necessarily say any of Apples products are cheap or bargained

because Apple actually makes high value great appreciative products all across the world

It’s the cheapest iPhone out there that is new, that makes it cheap when you look at all of their other phones. 700 CAD is not bad. I paid 850 for my certified pre owned, so about half. I thought that was a bargain considering lol.
