Some food for though is look at your personal libary size and how much has it grown over the past few years. For example my music libary has been at around 30 gigs now for the past 4 years or so. Yes I have added music over the past 4 years but still close that number.
Now on tv shows on the other had I have fill up a 500gig hard drive and have to go back a delete shows but I was mostly torrent files because I eithr did not have cable and or a dvr. That or it was how I watch past seasons of stuff most of it only gets viewed once so not a big deal.

Either way the best advice I can give is look at you personal media habits over the past few years. If you media libary has not grown much over the past few years chance are it is not going to much in the next few years as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, because I'm going off of what I've been told...

...but you may also take into account the amount of free memory needed if you plan on installing apps. For example, if you fill up your iPhone with 12GB on a 16GB iPhone (14.4GB) and decide on getting something like Navigon which is 1.46GB, then ideally you will need twice the free memory of the app's file size in order to install it and run it. In this case, it would be inadequate.

A good thing to do is go ahead and pick out the music you plan on putting on your iPhone and create a playlist so that it will be ready to transfer over when you finally get your phone. It will also give you an idea of how many songs and how much space it will all take up.

I went with 32gb because i like to carry around 1700 songs and i have alot of applications, the GPS app takes 1.8Gb alone and to update it you need 3.6Gb of free space, and i like to have some free space (1Gb at least) left in case i need to record a video or take pictures.

I don't understand the people saying one doesn't need to carry his whole library because he can't listen to it all anyway. The point of a large library isn't that you need all that music all the time; it's that whenever you want to listen to a particular song you will have it handy. It's about convenience and options, and not discovering that I've left the one song I really wanted to listen to at home.

Thats right , but if you're like me and dont listen to 70% of your music library anymore - you dont need al that space :p
