Streaming from Time Capsule/Airdisk

Tied to iTunes on a Mac or Windows. There is no ability to stream from anything else.

I am certainly hoping Apple adds the ability to stream content from the Time Capsule to a Mac, 
tv, iPhone and iPod Touch. It would really leverage the technology beyond just as a wireless Time Machine store.

My understanding was that AppleTV will, after the forthcoming software update, be able to stream from the network storage on Time Capsule.
AppleTV can only sync to one computer, and that computer has to be running iTunes, but it can stream from multiple computers.
I'm sure more will be known when the item is shipping, as Apple's employees generally do not have the full details until then.
If it ends up that you can stream of the time capsule to Apple TV, that might make the capsule worth the cost. I just don't need yet another wireless router in my office (already had an 802.11n DGL-4500 handling 5 GHz and the older 802.11g DGL-4300 on 2.4 GHz).
What I have now is a 500GB USB drive. On that drive is an iTunes library that contains all of my music and ALL of my TV shows and movies (I keep another library on my actual laptop with music and a handful of movies/tv shows in case I'm not at home). What the Time Capsule (TC) would allow me to do is essentially make the 500GB drive I have now wireless. Not literally. I would buy the 1TB drive and relocate my iTunes library to TC and probably sell the 500GB USB drive (or use it for something else).

Well you don't need a computer with the new software, I imagine you can manage the
tv manually like ipods nowcrosses fingers
Not too dissimilar from my setup except that I have 720gb hooked to my Airport Extreme which I access from my MBP. I'm fortunate that after rolling back to 7.1.1 firmware my airdisk seems pretty stable. I store all of my music on a partition and iTunes accesses this wirelessly.
I'm hoping that Apple TV can indeed stream from the Time Capsule in which case I'd consider dumping my 720gb drive and the AEBS for one.
I can't really imagine synching the Atv w/itunes on my MBP and then effectively streaming wirelessly twice...
I have a similar set up. 500gig hard drive hooked into my base station and power book pulls my itunes library straight from that hard drive. When I stream my Apple TV from this library, it can not play videos that I have stored on that hard drive because it is simply too much streaming. I can however stream music to the Apple TV. I guess the smaller file size is much easy to handle with all of the streaming. The reason it does not work is because the Apple TV pulls wirelessly from the lap top which pulls the video file wirelessly from the hard drive and then sends it back to the laptop which in turn sends the file back to the Apple TV (all done wirelessly). Simply too much streaming going on for it to work I guess.

I have 2 500 gig hd connected to my airport extreme and i can stream video from them through my mac book with no problem at all. I imagine it will be exactly the same with timecapsule

do you know if the reason is technical or otherwise...? such a shame. this would be a huge feature. the lunacy in this wireless / capsule / air age that they haven't enabled this.
so i decide on a whim i feel like watching something of my library, and i still have to go and open my laptop and launch itunes. i know this isn't the biggest thing in the world, but hardly the 'just works' philosophy either.

does anyone know if the iTunes compatible NAS devices would work with the new Mk.II version.

I called Apple Tech support and they said that you no longer need your PC or MAC opened with itunes to stream media to Apple TV, they said that the new Apple TV update now has a "itunes" software running from Apple TV and that it can find all itunes media from anywhere on the network from Time capsule or even Air disk it seems. !
You keep saying this but provide no proof? Steve mentioned specifically streaming from the Time Capsule to the AppleTV 2.0 (software update). So, what do you know that we do not?

It'll be interesting to see how this works. Being you can share your iTunes DB off your Computer still requires that computer to be on and iTunes to be open. As for additional sources (airdisk etc).. that WOULD be pretty sweet to work with the Air Disk (as that is my setup).

no **** sherlock. it's going to access it over WIFI from the AppleTV -> Time Capsule drive. The whole point of the new AppleTV release is to stream from your Time Capsule (OVER WIFI OR A LAN CABLE) without going through your iTunes db on your PC/MAc or rent iTunes movies.

Furthermore, how would you rent iTunes movies directly from the AppleTV (AS SAID IN THE KEYNOTE) if the new version didn't have some version of iTunes on it for the purchasing interface?
I think you have something wrong... it isn't going to stream anything from your time capsule drive directly to the AppleTV. Your computer purchases will come from the iTunes Store, but if you put your iTunes Library on your time capsule drive, it is still going to go "Time Capsule (aka an internal AirDisk) -> Computer -> Airport Extreme (built into Time Capsule enclosure) -> AppleTV" because it has to stream via an open iTunes library. If you rent something from the AppleTV interface, it will stream directly from the Internet to the AppleTV. If you buy something from the AppleTV, it will stream directly from the Internet to the AppleTV, and can by synced back to an iTunes Library if one is configured. Of course, I have not used the new interface, so this is completely based on what I've seen/read about it and my experience with v1.1.
I'm pretty sure Kevin, who is an engineer on the AppleTV team by the looks of his website, knows a lot more about what he's talking about than you on this subject.
