Mostly the cost. I also wasn't a huge fan of the touch bar on my MacBook Pro
A lot of the videos Ive been watching show little performance loss in favour of getting the Air

Im also a fan of how light and portable it is in comparison the the 15 inch pro which was even uncomfortable to use in bed

Unfortunately we don't have a consumer law like that here and I was lucky apple even replaced my logic board in the first place

I was a huge fan of the form factor of my 2017 13" Pro though, so I will take this into consideration :) Thanks so much

Did you get the 16GB RAM model then? :)
I saw this a while back and managed to find just now, not suggesting its right/wrong but for reference and for you to draw your own conclusions...

RAM?!

Yes, if Apple stores are back open in your area definitely go and check them out!

Have you checked the ARM forum linked below, and asked the question to see if others use a 8GB spec for the work you will be doing?

I've glanced at such threads for quite some time now; and the overall consensus seem to be that at the end of the day RAM is RAM. Meaning that even though MacOS on ARM theoretically can be less wasteful, and more efficient, in some ways; you still end up needing that RAM if you need that ram. ?

So it all comes down to if you're just going to do a bit of web surfing during the 5 years that computer might last you, or if you might use something requiring more RAM; like a graphics app (with lots of layers), or gaming, or quickly switch between different RAM heavy-ish apps.

Yea, thing is Ill probably only have this laptop for a maximum of 2 years and ontop of that, I have my iMac and my gaming PC close by if I ever need anything that can handle more of a task.

The problem is we don't have "official" apple stores here - just premium resellers which is why they have such a small selection of combinations and also why the 16GB model will take so long

I would love to order the 16GB air, I just think that waiting 6-8 weeks isn't worth it at that point as it will be a couple weeks away from the new MacBook Pro models

Whats making you want the Air over the MBP?
$200 or £200. Or look at it a different way: For the same money, you get MBP 8GB or MBA 16GB. For the same money you get MBP 256GB SSD or MBA 512GB SSD. Yes, the MBP is better, but for $200 I'd go for the 16GB first, then the 512GB SSD.

Yea I agree. I definitely want the 16GB MacBook Air over all else. It's perfectly fit to my budget and offers exactly what I need. The issue is the time for shipping. They gave me an "estimated" 6 weeks shipping time but said I should expect 8 weeks due to processing etc which is quite a deal breaker since I have just gotten rid of my previous laptop. So I might have to just take the risk and get the base model macbook air and save the rest of the money

Thanks for the reply :)

Can't you buy straight from Apple online?

This I cannot do sadly :(

The websites I can buy from and trust are:
www.istore.co.za

The currency is in rand and is generally around R15≈1$

Not being "American" I of course only needed to see .za to know the currency. ;)

So did you get the 8GB and how does it perform? Your need is pretty close to mine I'm completely new to macs and also pondering about the two RAM options.
Thanks in advance.

The brightness level indicator isn’t linear.

Take a 500 nits display, set brightness level to 90-95%, that’s what 400 nits will be like.
