So I was going to buy a ipod nano and a ibook but... the rebate doesn't specify anything about the nano and you can't bu y the min's anymore? Should I start a petition about this or what?
The rebate specifies which model #'s are eligible for the rebate, and the nano, from what I've heard, is not currently eligible nor will it be in the near future.mf2k said:So I was going to buy a ipod nano and a ibook but... the rebate doesn't specify anything about the nano and you can't bu y the min's anymore? rockthecasbah said:please search before you start another . I believe they found out since the Nano is replacing the mini, you may indeed use it in the rebate program.
No the rebate is for a free mini OR $179 towards another iPod, a Nano is another iPod and thus is included in the rebate program as a "free nano"lasuther said:The Nano cannot be used with the rebate. Currently there are mini's available, but they might run out by 9/24. Then you'll be stuck with a normal iPod. Imagine the horror.

And this:It's simple. Visit your campus computer store, the Apple Store online or an Apple Store near you. Choose an iBook, PowerBook, iMac or Power Mac, then select your favorite 4GB iPod mini. Or you can apply your $179 savings toward the purchase of a qualifying higher priced iPod.* But act now. This offer is good only through September 24, 2005.
* Terms and condition apply. The iPod shuffle and iPod nano are excluded from this offer. Download the rebate coupon for full terms and conditions.
thats only if you go to the apple store, online you can select a free mini or a monetary value of the mini to apply to another iPod of your choice.stonyc said:Quoting from the Apple Student Union page:

Correct.djkny said:Doesn't matter. When you cut out the SKU from the nano and your other Mac purchase, fill in forms and mail it in, Apple will not cut you the $179 check.
Nano Model #'s are:iPod, iPod mini, and iPod photo qualify for this o?er. iPod shu?e is excluded from this offer. (Qualifying iPod Part Numbers: M9829/P9829, M9802/P9802, M9800/P9800, M9804/P9804, M9806/P9806, M9801/P9801, M9803/P9803, M9805/P9805, M9807/P9807, M9830/P9830, M9282/P9282, MA079/PA079).
I used my Edu-staff discount to get a 12"PB and iPod mini (6GB) earlier in the summer, just got my rebate check yesterday.Naimfan said:I just bought an iMac and a blue Mini to take advantage of the Student Union offer. And having been to law school, I read the fine print, where it specifies the part number of the iPods that qualify. So unless the Nanos share a part number with the Mini's, which I find inconceivable, I agree with DJKNY (who I'm sure is MUCH happier that I do. . .).
I think you could certainly select a Nano in the online store, but you would not receive the $179.00 rebate check from Apple.

Lazyhound said:Slightly off-topic, but rather than opening a whole new thread: Does anyone know which UPC you have to send in from the iPod mini box? Is it the little 30x7mm one on the narrow side?
Is that under the sticker? Because it specifically states on the rebate form that they won't accept the sticker.wako said:Its the underneath thing with all the barcode. One of them even says UPC. You have to cut off that whole thing.
Relax . . . now take a deep breath . . .Stereo 99 said:this is bs. so i go to buy my powerbook with the student discount and the money that you can use to another ipod is not allowed to be spent on the nano. so i didnt take the powerbook. i already have a 20gb ipod i dont need another bigger one. I WANT A NANO DAM IT!!!!!

We should pay more attention to future Apple promotions that offer "free" gear for making particular purchases... the "free" gear is likely to be what's getting ready to be discontinued.

But they do a similar deal every year in August-September. They're not always up to something. Right before I bought my 12" PB several years ago, they offered a $300 (CDN) rebate if I bought an iPod with my new Mac. An iPod cost $450 at the time, I think. Anyway, they didn't have iPod Mini's at the time. Now they do, and they offer that for free with a Mac purchase, or money towards a big iPod.FlyNolJ said:That is so ridiculous. Chundles said:It's also probably the reason why all the iPod accessories are shipping free of charge at the moment (I think they still are) the new nano can't be used with any existing accessories and I suspect the new iPods when they come out may have a slightly changed form factor which would mean the same.
