The nano has the same 30-pin dock connector as the other iPods so it will work with most current accessories. I'm not sure where the incompatability issue came into play.

The dock connector on the nano is off-centre, so I wonder will it still fit in another iPod dock? (It's slimmer, so perhaps it will).

Plus, the nano can't use firewire. Since I don't have USB2 at the moment, that pretty much rules out a purchase from me.

The nano comes with a dock adapter that you can use to allow the nano to fit any standard dock-type device.

But they do a similar deal every year in August-September. They're not always up to something. Right before I bought my 12" PB several years ago, they offered a $300 (CDN) rebate if I bought an iPod with my new Mac. An iPod cost $450 at the time, I think. Anyway, they didn't have iPod Mini's at the time. Now they do, and they offer that for free with a Mac purchase, or money towards a big iPod.

And it's not like they're tricking you. You got exactly what you wanted.....an iPod Mini. It was still good yesterday, wasn't it?? They gave you an iPod Mini for almost nothing. Would you rather have a Powerbook, or a PowerBook + Mini for the same price?

Get over it.
Yep, seriously... it's like that one saying, not exactly sure how it goes. But something like: "Give a person a pound of gold, and they'll complain how heavy it is."

Apple never tried to trick anyone: the fine print says it, the list of acceptable models says it... you just have the patience to read, is that too much to ask for? ;)

Why would anyone be upset about a getting a free ipod-mini even if it is just repalced by the nano? If you still have use for the mini, if it still strikes your fancy, what's the difference? It's free for crying out loud! What do people expect? I just sent in my paperwork for the rebate, and I still love my mini! :D

DSWoodley (et al)--

EXACTLY right! The Mini is still great, and is what everyone understood to be a part of the offer before the Nano came out. All the gnashing of teeth sounds like a bunch of spoiled, whiny kids--"But I waaaannnnttttt a NNNNNaaaaannnnnooooo!" ;)

To anyone who WANTS a Nano: GO BUY ONE!

Best,

Bob

If you have difficulty spotting the iPod mini on the Apple online store, just pay attention to the text in the left gray column. "iPod mini" should be there.

Nope, not there. You might have to buy from the refurb section. I don't know.

I love my free iPod Mini!

I went and got an iBook to go along with my new eMac. I loved getting a free iPod Mini with it. I love my free iPod Mini! Yes, it has been discontinued and superceded by the iPod Nano, but I still love it for many reasons.

1. It was FREE!
2. It works with Firewire!
3. It's a colorful metal flaked beauty!
3. I got an iBook to go along with it, which I also love.
4. Did I mention it was free?
5. I wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't free.

So I was going to buy a ipod nano and a ibook but... the rebate doesn't specify anything about the nano and you can't bu y the min's anymore? Should I start a petition about this or what?

Yes, you can still buy a mini. It's not pictured on the store's home page, but if you click through to the iPod store, the mini is still an option. Just did it myself today.

It was there the day I posted that. :) The online store has changed. The iPod mini is apparently being unloaded by way of the refurb section.

Hey guys, what if i already had a mini.. and i bought a nano.. and instead of submitting the nanos serial number.. i submit my mini? do you think that would work?

No, because you have to submit a copy of your receipt, and both the computer and mini have to be on the same ticket.

But what if the receipt some how had the "ipod mini" ;) instead of the nano.. u think it would still work?

Dagan--

Even if it worked, it appears to be nothing short of fraud. Is that really worth it to you?

and this is why trying to deceive a company is wrong. And it is the only reason why you have to send in receipt and serial numbers because they know worthless human beings will try to rip them off.

pathetic

I know that.. i wouldnt do it.. but i was just wondering.. cuz it totally sucks.. the Canadian website says nothing about the ipod nano.. for the rebate offer.. and it said "ipod mini or any high priced ipod" i assumed it worked.. i bought them 2.. and i was gonna send the mail in rebate.. but then i wanted to see if it actually works.. i guess not.. apple did not state clearly... for canadians that is.. as for the modell number.. how are people suppose to know what the models of the nano are if we havent even bought it... its kind of apples fault.. as they should of changed it like the US website... now im stuck with my ipod nano and apple imac.. with not real savings.. im wondering if i could still return it..

and its not like i didnt buy a mini already.. so thats why i wanted the nano.. i already have the mini! lol

you ask when you are buying them. I did when i got my new powerbook and the 60GB iPod i asked and made sure that it would work. And i got the persons name down that i spoke with at the store in case it wasn't going to work.

Wow! Pretty harsh words haha. However, it is the sad truth that rebates are such a pain in the ass to fill out becuase companies know people will always try to work the system. Oh well all the paperwork is worth it for free stuff haha.

SERIOUSLY?

this is bs. so i go to buy my powerbook with the student discount and the money that you can use to another ipod is not allowed to be spent on the nano. so i didnt take the powerbook. i already have a 20gb ipod i dont need another bigger one. I WANT A NANO DAM IT!!!!!

Um...you do know the iPod mini is smaller than your 20gb, right?

So you passed up on spending $2,000 just because you were not allowed to get something for free?

Since you didn't get the powerbook...don't you now have more than enough cash to buy a nano?

Riiight...
