Hi,

So I have to use a work laptop for my job. It’s a Surface laptop 3. I’m also buying a new Mac Mini soon (when/if they upgrade it). So I want to use both machines with the Studio Display.

The surface only has USB-C output, but that’s fine.. I think. Honestly, if it only runs in 1440p mode that’s goed enough for me because lots of my old work stuff doesn’t have proper HDPI stuff anyway.

Has anybody here used a setup like this? Will the Mac Mini work with a USB-C based switch instead of Thunderbolt? I only plan to plug a keyboard an wired mouse into the display, that’s fine for USB-C right? The rest goes straight into the Mac Mini.

Any insight into why this will or won’t work properly would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

It'll be fine; I don't see an issue here. Using either USB-C mode or TB mode will let your Studio Display work properly.

Are you buying in store or online? If in-store, talk to the Apple rep to get tips on how to set it up.

Hi.

Did you manage to find out if this works as in a very similar position right now with my work laptop and about to purchase the Apple Studio Display.
