I wonder about this myself. I would love to turn it off (due to drunk phone calls), but not if it means I wont be woken up in the morning.

This is simple enough to test, but the answer to avoiding the midnight calls is to put the phone into airplane mode (turn off the wireless).

ok so since this thread has to do with the alarm clock I have a couple of questions.

How long does the iphone snooze? It seems like mine does for 9 minutes, but I just wanted to check.

Also, (and mainly) is there a limit the the amount of times you can hit snooze? On my old phone I think I could hit it 3 or 4 times. Thanks!

Or you can put it in Airline mode which shuts down all the transmitters so the phone won't even vibrate.

The only annoying thing is trying to remember to turn it on every morning. Now if only Apple could set it to remove airline mode (if desired) when the alarm went off. That would be awesome.

Or have some similar "night" setting that does this.

yup, you just need to be careful...a gentle touch is definitely enough to create this kind of problem. Also, set multiple alarms (I set 5-6, with progressively more annoying tones, for 15 minute intervals since I like to...keep sleeping? I start with "Harp" for a gentle wake and then end with something annoying like Pinball or Trill; in between, I use my own tones)
That's a great idea. I have a stand-alone dual alarm clock that I usually use (set ten minutes apart), but I really like the gentle-to-annoying idea.

AM / PM

I love the iPhone alarm.

actually...it was the volume ;)

It was actually Kramer's fault. His hot tub blew the fuses in the buidling, which also reset his "mental alarm clock," that prevented Jerry from waking up Jean Paul to run the New York City Marathon. It was also Kramer that accidentaly handed Jean Paul a cup of coffee instead of water, that he then threw in his face, that cost him the race.

Hi everyone:

I am a proud original Iphone owner (16g), yet I have one complaint that I was wondering if anyone else was facing. This morning I was supposed to be at my internship (I am in a clinical psychology masters program) at 7:45. Last night I set my alarm for 7:00 and quickly fell asleep. This morning I woke up at 9:00!!! Now why is this you might ask? Because of the dumb scroll bar on the alarm configuration. This is the second or third time this has happened and I accept full responsibility (I will be going to walmart and purchasing an alarm clock today), but I was wondering if anyone else has had their alarm set for pm when you where expecting am?

I use it in 24 hour clock mode, not so easy to go wrong then when your used to working that way.

With my old Clock radio, I had the AM/PM issue a few times. If you don't pay attention to those it will nail you.

However on all my phones/watches/computers etc, I always use 24 hour time. For someone who travels internationally all the time, this is a real lifesaver.

24 hour time is especially easy for use on the alarm function, because mostly you'll be waking up in the mornings, so even if you aren't good using the "army time" as many Americans call it, you will always be dealing with single digit numbers anyway so no problem and no AM/PM.

I haven't had a problem with the iPhone's alarm... Hell, I wish it was louder though. The light chime with a nudge will not alert me if it's in my purse or something.

I've had no problem with am/pm or the alarm in general.

By any chance, does anyone know if turning off the alarms that are currently snoozing and then turning them right back on again will "reset" the snooze so it won't go off again that morning due to snooze?

I've had this happen to me! It sucks. It's easy to miss it. I wish the AM/PM setting was bigger/much more explicit.

I've been using iPhone for alarm clock for over a year now. And I never had any problems. Just take extra second or two to make sure it is AM or PM. And it is a good idea to have a back up for important stuff. Set two alarms in the iPhone. One for the time you want, and one maybe 30min later. That's what I do.

thats what i do... cept i set 3 or 4 cuz i love to sleeeeeeeepp

This isn't an iPhone problem. It's an alarm problem. It doesn't matter what type of alarm you have. This is a goof I have made many times before. I hate the alarm clocks that don't do both AM and PM (instead just doing PM) because that makes it even more likely I'll fudge that up. There's also the problem of actually turning the alarm on every night/day.

The iPhone alarm has been one of the best I have seen. The mother of all noises "alarm" tone is awesome for ANNOYING THE MOTHER LOVIN' CRAP OUT OF YOU SO YOU'LL TURN IT OFF. About the only other thing I could find out there was some audio of Sean Hannity (oooohhh!!!!!). But seriously, I love it. Much better than the 13-menu-layer alarm on my Razr.

As for alarms, always have backups. Set more than one alarm on the iPhone and get yourself another alarm device. Redundancy, dude!

That would suck if you have to put it on silent or Airline mode and not be able to shut it off completely and have the alarm work. I'm not sure I want the iPhone on all the time -- I might be charging it all the time.

I'm confused. If all the transmitters are off and the phone is simply idle ("on") in airplane mode, why is that worse than being entirely off?

You don't understand, in order to be a barely functioning alarm, the iPhone needs to:

* Automatically know when to set itself in case the owner forgets;

* Automatically know that it's in someone's purse, and not on their bedside, so it has to ring louder;

* Automatically turn itself on an ring even if the owner turns it off;

* Automatically know when the owner is asleep and stop receiving calls and emails;

* Automatically start receiving calls and emails when the owner wakes up, but only once the owner's snoozed as many times as necessary that day because they don't want their snoozes interrupted with phone calls;

* Automatically know that, just for today, the owner wants to snooze more than x times; and

* Automatically vary the snooze interval to be exactly what the owner wants it to be that morning.

You know, just like every other alarm clock out there.

I own an iPod, not an iPhone, but I am sure my remarks apply.

There are 2 features that are clearly stupid. Tell me if I am wrong.

* The volume of the alarm should be distinct from the volume of the other applications. I want to be able to work silently with my iPod but not miss an alarm when it is back in the pouch, in my jacket across the office. You know, like with a mobile phone.

* If I haven't touched my iPod for a week (say after holidays), it should not require to acknowledge my daily alarm 7 times.
