Is it safari 10 causing weak scrolling or the OS sierra specifically?

because safari 10 can be put on el cap,

dual booting sierra and el cap, but right now my el cap is 10.11.6 and safari 9.0.1 not 10

i have safari 10 on el cap, scrolling is smooth, so the problem is in sierra somewhere. btw i tried sierra for several days so the os can index stuff hoping that the scrolling will smooth out. no luck though, choppy scrolling all the way with sierra, using el cap now.

i have a late 2013 27" imac. i do recommend safari 10 on el cap. smooth scrolling and more secure too, than safari 9.

so it seems like at that point, main sierra benefit is apple watch ability to unlock, emojis/updated messages app, and Siri?

I have had poor scrolling on both my Macbook Pro Mid 2012 (non-retina) as well as my Air 2 in safari. Fixed both with adblockers, Ghostery on mac, and 1blocker on iPad. Very happy with both now performing flawlessly.

that does help a lot, but not exactly what we're talking about it

it's not glaringly obvious chop/stuttery-ness to the non discerning eye, but i now see what people are talking about between el cap and sierra,

I do not think I understand as my scrolling is better in Sierra than it was in El Cap, and that is on 4-year-old hardware. Then again it isn't something that would be obvious to the naked eye

As i saw it mostly affects imacs, scrolling on macbook pro is better with sierra
