I'm buying a laptop for my best friend for college and would like to know your opinions on a good laptop for less than $1000 as i do not want to break the bank... needs to run windows because thats all he wants... oh and if you have one pm me... thanks...

You have to remember if you wait until your best friend is eligible for the student discount, it'll probably knock the price down a bit.
Of course there are some deals like Amazon's $50-100 off coupons, free shipping, a tax free purchase etc.
If you need a quality computer that'll be expected to last through college and is durable enough to take some naked abuse in a backpack, the MacBook will probably lead the pack -- even if it is pricey.

MacBook with education discount start at $1049 if you can find someone that has access to an education discount.
Other than that Dell probably has the best sales right now. They've had weak sales as of late and are really pushing good incentives to buy from them now.
I think that Inspiron E1505 has been talked about a lot recently.

you're in the wrong place there is no apple laptop that will run windows for under 1000 dollars. The closest you're going to get is 1050 for macbook with edu discount.
just get him a dell you have many choices there plus it even comes with windows.

What are priorities? Small? Game-playing ability? Battery life?
If small, maybe the Dell 710M? Although it's really in a transition point right now, and it seems like a poor deal compared to the MacBook, because it doesn't have a camera, and it doesn't have a Core Duo....

As others have said, I would highly recommend your friend to go with a MacBook and use Boot Camp to run Windoze.
College students are often in programs (law school is an example) where all the exams are computer based and you have to run a special program to take that exam... and that program only has a windows version.SC68Cal said:

Blackboard is, but I did take a class during my undergrad that required Windows in order to run the software that came with the book, which was the testing software. This seems to be the case with a lot of included CD-ROMs that come with books...even if there's a Mac version of the software in question (i.e. SPSS), they don't include it.
