LOL.. great job figuring out how to turn subs on/off.. However, it has nothing to do with this issue.

If you had actually read this thread - the problem is subs disappearing after 10 seconds of playback on 1280x720 titles. The issue doesn't exist on SD DVDs. This is something Apple will have to fix in the future ATV2 firmware.

P.S. hint - you don't need iOS Remote app to toggle subs, you can do the same via ATV menus.

I haven't noticed subtitles disappear yet ;) BUT they are very tiny - sharp and clear but extremely hard to read because of their small size. I sent Apple feedback already, I will call their support, too.

BTW: to select subtitles track OR swich them on/off you don't have to go through any menu or do magic with chapters and Remote app. Just press and hold the middle remote button ("OK") WHILE playing a subtitled movie.

Just one more feedback

Hi all,

I also have the subtitles problems on my news atv2.
After adding the subs with subler on an .mp4 file, playback with subs works great on QuickTimeX, iTunes, iPhone4

The problem comes with the atv2. I can see the subs, but they are small, and it event seems the are too low, so I can't always read the entire text.

I'll fill in a bug on bugreport.apple.com

1. hitekalex - I checked 3 minute samples only but 1280x720 files played ok and subtitles did not disappear - to answer your post. I'm yet to test longer files
2. The comment about size is relevant to this thread, too which title is "Subtitle issues with ATV 2?"

3. I also noticed what someone had spotted already - the higher resolution the bigger subtitles. I.e. 720p movies have perfectly sized subtitles. My comment about them being tiny is relevant only for DVD rips for example or other small resolution files

To summarize: Subtitle issues with ATV 2? Yes there are!

Fixed!!

After updating my ATV2 today I'm happy to report that the subtitles issue with resolution bigger than the 720p ITS FIXED! Or at least it seems to be in the videos I've tried so far.

Hope is the same for everyone.

Cheers

This is good news.

I'll update and give it a shot.

Subtitles size and bugs corrected indeed for HD videos.
But for SD, the soft subtitles displayed are still very little and unreadable...

Did a quick check with some of my test material and it seems to be working ok now.

Have you check the subtitles size with SD media ?
For me the fontsize is still very low and unreadeable from the couch (640width in my case).

I'm still experiencing this problem. iSubtitle didn't accept the .srt file, so I tried SubMerge and when I view the file in Quicktime with Perian it works fine, but I cannot see it in iTunes or Apple TV 2 :(
