If it truly detracts from your enjoyment of your computer, I believe you should continue until you are a satisfied customer. When a company charges a premium for what they proclaim are obviously superior products to their competitors, the burden falls on their shoulders to adequately address all valid concerns. This is clearly one of those concerns. Take Elsie back and make your voice heard.

Yea, you're right. If other people are paying the same price as I am but don't have this mooing **** I shouldn't either. It's just such a hassle because the geniuses try to make you feel hella guilty and stuff. *PS take elsie back?

What week number was your latest macbook? Mine is week 21 with no issues at all.

Both moo books were: 4H621...so both were produced in the week 21 :-(

I totally understand your frustrations and that is one of the reasons I am holding off on buying a new MB. Of course, waiting is no guarantee that I will fare better when I finally take the plunge, but I also do not relish the process of having to plead my case justifying a replacement unit that is nice and quiet.

I also think Apple should have gone with the modest name Tech Bar instead of Genius Bar. I have heard people leave that area saying, "I cannot believe I waited four hours for that!" When you annoint employees with the title of genius, people are not exactly going to cut much slack in situations where their particular dilemma is not resolved in all respects.

lol yea I agree on the genius bar thing. I just wish apple would officially acknowledge this problem and are ensuring us that they are working on a way to fix it. As for now, I'm gonna use it for the nest 12 days and hope for a firmware patch to come out. If not, I'll just have to plead my case yet again.

I think you are right in using it to gauge performance for the next 12 days. Call me naive, but I believe a solution to this problem will be forthcoming (although patience may be a real virtue during the wait). In another thread, a poster mentioned using headphones while listening to iTunes as a way around the noise issue.

As common sense approaches to maintaining one's sanity go, I could see myself doing that. However, any creative or innovative way of dealing with a problem does nothing to alter the fact that it must be dealt with as a problem, and not just something that can be put on the backburner because certain customers are just more fixated on noise than others or have a greater level of tolerance for imperfection.

black macbook cover

Hi guys. The other day i found a little dust on the cover of my macbook so i tried to clean it off. But after cleaning, the little dust became a tiny little hole with silver color inside. Im not sure if it was there before or maybe because of my cleaning. Im thinking of exchnage for another one becuase of this. But is it really worth changing? After all, its extremely small little hole and normally no one or even me can recognise it. Want u guys' opinions. Cheers. And if anyone one else got the same problem? Thanks

Wow thanks. I've actually never heard this moo before, but now I know what it sounds like. Haha....."moooOOOoooo............moooOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo......" :p

hahaha I'd never heard it before either. I half thought you were all making it up. LOL.

Anyway, my macbook doesn't have any moo whatsoever, but there is a slight whine if the processors are idle. It's very quiet though... only audible if the room is silent or you're listening very closely.

My Macbook shipped yesterday morning.. The invoice says its 4H624....
So i hope that means that it will NOT moo, because apple had that extra time to fix this problem without ever tellling anyone :D

Anyone else with a macbook with this 'week' number, what is yours doing?

I actually received a new black macbook yesterday with a bunch of these tiny little holes and scratches on the lid (i had the ram upgraded so maybe it was scratched during installation) = was not happy = called apple and they let me return it no questions asked (even though it was custom).....

i think people are just over reacting
its a computer its bound to make some noise
i hear no moo unless i put my ear up to the keyboard then i hear a little bit of hum
and the whine is actually annoying i only hear it when its charging

I get the same thing, but from exerience with 3 bad MBPs, I know that they are NOT over reacting.

My Macbook makes noise, but not nearly enough to annoy me.

hahaha... Very enthusiastic, haha

No, i havent received my macbook yet, it shipped custom from China on the 15th. I checked my invoice and the serial number is ...24... Since People are saying the week 21's pretty much 'moo' and DONT 'moo' i was hoping mine is about a month newer then those and hopefully they fixed the mooing and heating on it...

I havent really heard any thoughts on what models moo and dont moo.. so hopefully these are better.. or at least mine has no problems because i am 4 hours away from the nearest Apple store.. :(

I don't understand this mooing. What does it actually sound like, and just curious, but have you tried QuietMBP? I know it's for the CPU whine on Macbook Pro's, but I have a feeling that the issue is more or less the same. But it's just a theory, you could try it and see. Wouldn't hurt.

sooo weird my macbook does not mooo?
how loud is this moo and when does it make place?
the only real loud sounds come from my power adapter and a bit of fan and optical drive noise while burning cds/dvds
