yeah I switched to a Sapphire pulse but my perforce has actually gone down
Unfortunately I only have an old 17 inch monitor, so I can't do the same tests you do to compare, but when I compare my results with the online tests I am on par with the 480's performance. My luxmark is 14303

Don’t mean to be rude, but you have a pretty meaty spec mac.
Why do you only have a 17 inch monitor........:p
...and why do you need an RX580, isn’t the max rez about 1280x1024 or something.

Ah that"s easy. Well if you show me a way to run Mojave without @dosdude1 hack with hd5770 you will be genius:)

Startergo,

My dell oem rx 580 also shows as 480, but the graphics quality is crap. I have only two low resolution options. Any ideas why the drivers are not loading? Thanks for your replies on the other thread.

@rlayne the RX 580 is just a RX 480 with a new name.
what is bad about the graphics?

it helps when you ask a question to give details

i am on OSX?
with a (what computer 4,1/5,1?)
display X

and any extra info about the problem to make it clear to inderstand

[doublepost=1564783650][/doublepost]Apologies we were discussing this on another thread and I made the mistake of assuming all would know what I was talking about. Here is my original post from the other thread.

I have a MP4,1 flashed to 5,1, dual 5680s, 64gb ram, 500gb 850 Evo on pcie sata III card, 1tb storage drive, usb 3.0 pcie card. Mojave. I removed my GTX Titan and installed a reference RX 580 to regain acceleration. The 580 shows up as a 480 and there are no drivers installed. Image is crap and only has options for two low resolutions. I placed the 580 in a PC and confirmed it was a 580 and working properly. reinstalled in MP and same issue.
I am not sure what the issue is here, any suggestions? I am trying to avoid having to do a fresh OSX install. Would that actually fix this? Has anyone else heard or seen this problem? I was under the impression the card would just work. So frustrating, after this whole nvidia driver fiasco. Thank you in advance for any assistance
[doublepost=1564783690][/doublepost]I have dual 30” apple cinema displays

ok so your in osx10.14 with the RX 580 and the display is not outputting the correct resolution ?

your not talking about some kind of artifacting interference or graphical corruption colour cast or other problems?

I assume resolution is what your talking about when you say 'Image is crap'?
got to ask are you only getting single link DVI cable resolution options?

you have a RX 580 -> cable kind? -> apple display

assume the apple display is the 2560 × 1600 sing Dual-link DVI-D

so 99% sure you have an incorrect cable as thats the normal problem

have you done any troubleshooting?

have you tried SwitchResX https://www.madrau.com/

you can also look in system info to see what it says

[doublepost=1564888961][/doublepost]I have a single mini six pin to six pin. The card is a Dell I am and only requires a single six pin. I am using two display port to dvi dongles with dvi to dual 30" Apple cinema displays.

Dvi-d . No corruption. Just low res. So everything is low res fuzzy. I only get two resolution options under system preferences/ display. I have tested on pc and the card is fine, correct driver installs no issues. On the mac pro it shows up as a 480 and does not use drivers based on the low res options.
[doublepost=1564890232][/doublepost]Dvi-d dual link

'I only get two resolution options'

are they single link DVI resolution options ?

can you name the resolution options you are given

So, I finally figured this out. I had to DVI-D dual link cables. However, my DP to DVI-D adapters were DVI-D single link. thus the grainy image. Thankyou for the ideas and the push to check DVI-D dual link. I now have a spare 580 to put in my MP 3,1 although it does show as a 480. I can follow the previous instructions to cosmetically change that. I ordered 3 visiontek adapters (I can use the DVI-D port on the sapphire rx 580 pulse) so I only need one adapter) the reference dell oem 580 will require two. Hope this helps someone in the future. Thank you to every one who responded and added to the conversation. Here is the actual name of the adapter if anyone needs to search for one; VisionTek Active DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI converter. They are about $30.00 on Amazon.

happy to know you got it to work.

you will have to use a work around to get the RX 580 to work in the 3,1,

One last update. I had to order a powered dvi-D dual link to mini display port adapter and a display port to mini display port adapter to run dual 30" cinema displays. Same issue as adding a 30" cinema display to a macbook with mini display port.

The dell oem rx 580 works fine with smaller displays, but will require the solution above for 30" apple cinema displays. If you have dual 30"s you will need two of each adapter.

Hope this helps anyone else who may encounter this.

Thanks to all who replied and assisted. Your help was invaluable. My mac pro lives on. Looking forward to many more years with the help of DosDude and the rest of the community.
