Right, all you need to do is look at the picture and see the type of port it uses for the upstream usb connection. It won't support the power that charging requires.

I pretty seriously doubt it charges the MacBook; while I'm not an expert in such matters and don't have citations for the USB3 specifications handy, I don't believe there's any provision for charging the host end of the connection unless using USBC.

What are you needing that the HooToo Shuttle doesn't provide in one of their configurations?

Well I would like keep the Apple LED Cinema display A1267 I am using now with the MBA while working desktop in the office. I could try to go from Mini DP to Hdmi to use the HooToo through a bunch of dongles and gender changers, but it seem to me somehow overambitious...

Won't work. DisplayPort can output HDMI but not the other way around.
Thanks, so in the meanwhile Vantec confirmed their box won't charge the rMb as you anticipated: Hydradock the only option left if we want to keep Led Cinema displays on our desks. If we want to move from MBA to RMB, we have to consider LG or Dell as desktop display through HDMI with the HooToo or something similar.

Also consider the Asus PB278Q, I've been quite pleased with my mine (using with a mini). They may have a newer version, I don't know. HDMI, DVI, and DP inputs.

There's also the new Lenovo ThinkVision displays with USBC connectivity coming out... :D

If it does not charge while connecting is totally worthless. Waiting for their confirmation. So in the end only caldigit or hydradock are valid options and both are backorders. I don't understand why.

My OWC USB-C Dock has an 80W power supply and is charging my MacBook right now.

Anyone have experience with this one? Amazon reviews seem positive.

If anyone else was looking into this one, I'm happy to report my experience has been great so far. It actually looks and feels like an official Apple product all the way down to the packaging.

I had no trouble at all charging the Macbook, outputting 1080 to my 27in monitor, using my wired Apple keyboard, and recording in Garageband with a Blue Yeti usb mic.

Probably my only complaint is that the HooToo logo is a little large and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the light without unplugging from a power source. For my setup, I leave it plugged up all the time and then dock my Macbook whenever I need the larger monitor. Pretty minor in the grand scheme of things though. So far so good with this hub!

So, here's my plan (problem what next having some MBAs 2012 on their last leg used 50% desktop and 50% otr, desktop today with Belkin Thunderbolt2 station and Led Cinema display or with Thunderbolt display)
I got an open box rMB 1.2 Ghz / 8 / 512 at a reasonable price (1,1k€) and waiting for Caldigit (they said 3 week delivery) and Hydradock (shipping in two weeks). If all goes well the Thunderbolt will go for a 4K monitor, the Led cinema display will stay a little more ( I do not have the stomach for selling what has become like a friend sitting on my desk for ages now) I will get another rMB, whatever version they sell if the test plant works and Apple can update his notebook line at his own convenience. I will share feedback on the two USB-C docks I am waiting for. Early adopters words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I am waiting both Caldigit and Hydradock USB-C docking stations. Delivery expected 6-7 weeks (Hydra) and 2-3 weeks ( Caldigit ) I have to connect a rMB with a Led Cinema Display and at least a Ethernet UTP a one Usb device/hub ASAP. Is there nothing off the shelf? Can't find anything. Thanks.

I've been looking at that hub, seems good, but the problem is that there are barely any reviews outside of Amazon, and on Amazon all the reviews are positive, most of these reviews have similar writing style, which is a red flag, additionally, there are no 4 stars or lower reviews (on Amazon UK), think about that for a moment.

I'm considering on 12" MB, but before I go ahead and get myself one, I need to find a USB-C hub with at least 2 USB-A ports, pass through charging, either HDMI or DP/mDP and maybe a SD card reader, but the most important thing for me is the ability to power an external drive without needing a power source (something that most USB-C hubs fails to do)

So far I've narrowed it down to 3 options

Anker Premium USB-C Hub
HooToo Shuttle
Satechi USB-C hub (no display output, but I can get by without it, but this hub poses a bit of problem for me, at times the MacBook will be on a stand so having this hanging on the machine isn't ideal unless I get an extension cable.)

Not sure what to go with, oh yeah, should also mention that I live in UK and I'd like to avoid having to ordering something overseas.

I have an external I could test the HooToo with if you'd like.

If you could, that would be great, what drive do you have?

Also I forgot to mention Nonda Hub+, that would have been perfect, it has all the ports I need, too bad it's not getting released anytime soon.

MINIX NEO USB-C Multiport Adapter looks like a good option, I'll have to look into that more.

I have a 1TB seagate and can confirm the HooToo does not work for what you're trying to do (use a usb hard drive without power being supplied to the adapter for those who are curious).

I can hear my external kick on like it's being powered and it lights up as well; never shows up on the macbook though. This was with me right around 50% battery life.

No issues, of course, when I have power wired into the HooToo.

Edit: So apparently I can't even get the drive to pull up when the Hub is powered...going to do a few more tests because that seems odd. Guessing it's because the hub prioritizes charging.

Ah, that's a bit disappointing, I liked the look of HooToo the most, even the logo glow, I guess I'll rule that one out, thanks for testing.

No problem. I'm going to try a few more tests with the battery at a higher percent.

One of the amazon reviews said the Hub prioritized charging the macbook so perhaps with my battery closer to full, it may work? I'll report back either way.

Has anyone in the UK received their CalDigit USB-C Dock yet? I ordered mine in Jan when expected shipping was 'Feb', but now the estimation is 'Apr/May'. I was just wondering if any have shipped in the UK yet or whether we are all waiting?

I ordered it through the Caldigit Eu store march 23rd. Then sent an email to the support one week later and they said 'three weeks'. Wrote again last week and answer was 'sorry mere guessing, last info we have is end of april/may'.
You're in good company...

Thanks. If 'april/may' is a 'mere guess' then I guess we should hope for June at best... maybe I'll order a DisplayPort cable in the interim. Frustrating they can't be more accurate.

I just came across CalDigit's USB-C mini dock, if the quality is as good as their other docks, and has no issues with powering an external drive without needing external power, it's the perfect solution I've been looking for.

I wish my OWC was shipping. Ordered it in Feb, was told Mid-March delivery, now saying Mid April. It's April 15....betting it's going to be updated to say "Mid May" soon.
