I pretty seriously doubt it charges the MacBook; while I'm not an expert in such matters and don't have citations for the USB3 specifications handy, I don't believe there's any provision for charging the host end of the connection unless using USBC.
What are you needing that the HooToo Shuttle doesn't provide in one of their configurations?
Thanks, so in the meanwhile Vantec confirmed their box won't charge the rMb as you anticipated: Hydradock the only option left if we want to keep Led Cinema displays on our desks. If we want to move from MBA to RMB, we have to consider LG or Dell as desktop display through HDMI with the HooToo or something similar.Won't work. DisplayPort can output HDMI but not the other way around.

If it does not charge while connecting is totally worthless. Waiting for their confirmation. So in the end only caldigit or hydradock are valid options and both are backorders. I don't understand why.
Anyone have experience with this one? Amazon reviews seem positive.

Also consider the Asus PB278Q, I've been quite pleased with my mine (using with a mini). They may have a newer version, I don't know. HDMI, DVI, and DP inputs.
Running it at native resolution (2560x1440) over displayport, I think 60hz but will have to double check if that's important to you.Which res/freq. are you running this with the mini? Thx
That's ok thank youRunning it at native resolution (2560x1440) over displayport, I think 60hz but will have to double check if that's important to you.
If anyone else was looking into this one, I'm happy to report my experience has been great so far. It actually looks and feels like an official Apple product all the way down to the packaging.
I had no trouble at all charging the Macbook, outputting 1080 to my 27in monitor, using my wired Apple keyboard, and recording in Garageband with a Blue Yeti usb mic.
Probably my only complaint is that the HooToo logo is a little large and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the light without unplugging from a power source. For my setup, I leave it plugged up all the time and then dock my Macbook whenever I need the larger monitor. Pretty minor in the grand scheme of things though. So far so good with this hub!
I have an external I could test the HooToo with if you'd like.I've been looking at that hub, seems good, but the problem is that there are barely any reviews outside of Amazon, and on Amazon all the reviews are positive, most of these reviews have similar writing style, which is a red flag, additionally, there are no 4 stars or lower reviews (on Amazon UK), think about that for a moment.
I'm considering on 12" MB, but before I go ahead and get myself one, I need to find a USB-C hub with at least 2 USB-A ports, pass through charging, either HDMI or DP/mDP and maybe a SD card reader, but the most important thing for me is the ability to power an external drive without needing a power source (something that most USB-C hubs fails to do)
So far I've narrowed it down to 3 options
Anker Premium USB-C Hub
HooToo Shuttle
Satechi USB-C hub (no display output, but I can get by without it, but this hub poses a bit of problem for me, at times the MacBook will be on a stand so having this hanging on the machine isn't ideal unless I get an extension cable.)
Not sure what to go with, oh yeah, should also mention that I live in UK and I'd like to avoid having to ordering something overseas.
If you could, that would be great, what drive do you have?I have an external I could test the HooToo with if you'd like.
I have a 1TB seagate and can confirm the HooToo does not work for what you're trying to do (use a usb hard drive without power being supplied to the adapter for those who are curious). If you could, that would be great, what drive do you have?
Also I forgot to mention Nonda Hub+, that would have been perfect, it has all the ports I need, too bad it's not getting released anytime soon.
MINIX NEO USB-C Multiport Adapter looks like a good option, I'll have to look into that more.

I can hear my external kick on like it's being powered and it lights up as well; never shows up on the macbook though. This was with me right around 50% battery life.
No issues, of course, when I have power wired into the HooToo.
No problem. I'm going to try a few more tests with the battery at a higher percent.Ah, that's a bit disappointing, I liked the look of HooToo the most, even the logo glow, I guess I'll rule that one out, thanks for testing.
I ordered it through the Caldigit Eu store march 23rd. Then sent an email to the support one week later and they said 'three weeks'. Wrote again last week and answer was 'sorry mere guessing, last info we have is end of april/may'.Has anyone in the UK received their CalDigit USB-C Dock yet? I ordered mine in Jan when expected shipping was 'Feb', but now the estimation is 'Apr/May'. I was just wondering if any have shipped in the UK yet or whether we are all waiting?

You're in good company...
My OWC USB-C Dock has an 80W power supply and is charging my MacBook right now.
