Looking forward to see what Apple do with Skylake, they're one of the last big tech companies to upgrade to the chips, must be a good reason...
 
Interesting. But for productivity I'd choose a Macbook over a Windows laptop anytime. I have zero expectations from laptops anyway, as it comes to gaming performance.
 
From a purely hardware standpoint, to be fair, they should have loaded Windows 10 onto their MBP 13" and compared performance from that point of view. I suspect that if they had done that, they would have seen results closer to Microsoft's "twice as fast" claims.

The differences in software no doubt played a supporting role in the cause of the discrepancies being noted.

As a result, it's difficult for me to take their review seriously.

Almost makes me want to /facepalm.

That's the point - Microsoft created a 13" laptop with a dGPU, something that Apple chose not to do. While the comparison is unfair in a sense dGPU vs. iGPU the point is valid. We have a competitor one upping the design of a laptop. Will apple respond I don't think directly, that is I don't expect to see a dGPU in their 13" MBP.

That is true. Most games run at least half as fast in OS X when compared to Windows.
Mostly due to being cider ports which is the worst way to "port" (more emulate) game to mac.
Also windows graphics driver and directX are performance beasts!

The surface graphics card is a 940 M the one in the 15 inch rMBP is about 2x as fast. take a look for yourself.

And the Surface's GPU is a 940M underclocked.

And the current MBP is older than the future SB.
 
I checked out the SurfaceBook at my local MS store and I was impressed. It does feel heavier then a MBP, but it also feels solid. Build quality seemed high, and the screen was downright gorgeous. Performance was very good, though I didn't really put it through its paces. I think if I'm serious about getting it, I'll visit the store a few more times.

I'm rather hesitant to buy a gen 1 product and this product as some really innovative and different options, so that does give me pause.

As for the comparisons it should have been spec for spec. Apple does not do a full os tablet so I really see little point in the comparison. I have a ms surface at work and honestly it's @&£"

Actually I'm sure you can make it a hackintosh. You can do that with the Surface Pros.

I own a SP3, and I'm very happy with it :)

I am totally unaware of this, is it legal? Can I really have OSX on a surface pro and using my ID apple as I normally do? Do you have any issue, that would be cool!!!

Installing OS X on a non-Apple computer does violate Apple's EULA, but at the end of the day it is not exactly like the Apple Police are running around enforcing this. There are entire web sites dedicated to this and Apple does not seem to bother them. I think as long as you are not building these "Hackintosh" machines then selling them, Apple does not care much.

Hackintosh usual means no iMessage, no native sound or networking. Disconnecting Bluetooth accessories, USB ports not charging or working. It becomes more of a hobby just getting it to work rather than just using it for work. If you have more time than money it makes a little bit sense. You may get it to be stable and highly usable, but never to 100%.

Performance is great, still I recommend the real deal. A Hackintosh is hard to get working, but easy and cheap to upgrade.

Pre production computers seem to have issues like occasional blue screen, trackpad issues... if I were a buyer, I would not preorder the computer... i'm staying sceptical until I get a confirmation it really is a polished product.

I hope this means Apple may ship the 13" model with the Iris Pro in order to compete with the Surface Book though I'm guessing not due to several reasons. It seem to get the Iris Pro, one needs to purchase the i7HQ model which wouldn't be able to fit in the 13" body for cooling reasons. Another would be the price as the Iris Pro board seem to cost around $400 (which is the i7HQ so hard to tell if that's the extra cost of the CPU at play or the extra 128 MB of DRAM). Additionally it seems the upcoming Iris edition will be getting 64 MB of DRAM which should significantly address any high bandwidth issues thought it isn't as ideal as 128 MB

Yep and that's why sometimes comparing a new product like the SB against the MBP is not the best since the MBP is due for a refresh. Still at purchase time, you need to decide which product best fits your budget and addresses your needs the best.

Or do what I do, if it's parts can't be replaced buy used, it's easier on the budget. :p
