And, you know, the iPhone is still the most popular single smartphone out there, period. How many Android phones are out there? How many Android phone manufacturers are out there? There's one iPhone. Every single one of those Android phone companies would KILL to have one phone that was even half, or maybe even a quarter as popular as the iPhone.
Funny, anyone would think it's the other way around seeing as Apple are constantly trying to sue Samsung, anyone would think they're threatened.

Also, The Galaxy S2 outsold the iPhone 4S for over 8 months, a device a year older that it. The Galaxy Ace also outsold the iPhone, and on contract the Galaxy S3 is currently outselling the iPhone 5.

So no, all of those Android companies wouldn't kill to have a phone like the iPhone, Samsung already have one, the Galaxy series.

Keep fooling yourself into thinking Apple is still the top dog in the phone world.

Ironic that people here equate older with less technical knowledge. Obviously the proportion of older people who are computer literate is smaller than the proportion of younger people. However, in my experience older computer-literate people are much more informed than the younger folk. ... If you want some fun, present a young person with a command prompt and watch them spasm with befuddlement. :p

It is the responsibility of the patent holder to litigate against patent infringement. The USPTO isn't going to sue Samsung for infringing Apple's patents, Apple has to do that. They did, and they won. Samsung overtly expressed its desire to copy the iPhone, and was punished. How could any of that possibly be interpreted as Apple feeling threatened?

Because they wouldn't sue a company that does not impact their sales.

However I do agree with you. If you patent something and feel someone is infringing on that patent then you should do something about it.

Not sure where you got your information from but this is complete nonsense. Maybe on individual carriers or in specific countries but worldwide, not true. And certainly not the case in the US.

How did Samsung express the desire to copy thr iPhone? The only thing Samsungs devices and iPhones have in common are the fact that they're both smartphones.

Apple copied the Notification bar I had this on my xperia X10 mini, then it came out with iOS 5. Android did voice control first, then Apple came out with Siri and claimed it was "innovation" and the next best feature since sliced bread. Google maps? Nope, Apple now have their own maps, which are also a god send and amazing, so they claim.

What have Android/Samsung took from Apple/iOS? I'm pretty sure Sony/HTC/Nokia have infringed on the same patents that Apple sued Samsung for, but did Apple sue them? No. Why? Because they aren't a threat to them, and Apple will do anything they can to get one up on Samsung because they're their biggest competitor.

I love Apple products, the iPad is a brilliant piece of kit, and I loved my iPhone too, but I hate Apple.

Did you read through the evidence of the lawsuit? They submitted internal e-mails that showed Samsung wanted to copy the iPhone. The patent system protects intellectual property, of course they're going to attack the largest infringers. Apple had voice control since iOS 3, and Siri was unlike anything Android had built-in. Notification Center was a clear rip-off, and Maps is a part of the ongoing break-up between Apple and Google. Android ripped pinch-to-zoom and more conceptual designs, nobody's clean in my opinion.

I don't love Apple, but they continue to push quality hardware/software.

Among the employed adults I know the only real "feature" anyone really wants is that the phone doesn't **** up most of the time.

True. That's why Samsung is becoming so successful with it's Galaxy line. I've had every one & the SGS III I'm currently using has been really reliable. Apps don't crash as frequently as those on my iPhone, plus Google's done a terrific job with the Google Play Store.

The gap that once existed between the well developed iTunes ecosystem and it's Android counterpart has closed. The two ecosystems while naturally different are both very good choices now.

As a result, the consumer has two great platforms to choose from, and it's this fact that's continuing to make it hard for Windows Phone to gain traction.

I'm very happy using Android & iOS, it's a combo that gives me the variety I enjoy. :)

?

The case was a joke. We'll see it go back to court sooner then later for juror misconduct.

The juries decision was way to quick to actually deliberate the evidence.

They found Samsung liable for patents that were not infringed on THEN AMENDED THE VERDICT AN HOUR LATER.

The "we copy documents" were comparative documents that all business does. What does the competition have that we don't.

And this all stemmed from the Galaxy S1? Gimme a break.

Just blatant abuse of the patent and judicial system. Of course Samsungs dumbass should never went for the jury trial anyway.

I'm 16 and I think Android is "futuristic" but not "hot"

Whatever. I chose android due to customization and the fact that I can just flash to vanilla easily. I'm a nerd though, so I think different then average consumers. My mom has an iPhone, my dad has android, my sister has an iPhone, I have android. Its a 50/50 split in my house (though my cat prefers android too)

Get over yourself. So many igeeks get butthurt when anything comes out that shows their precious itoys dont make them the cool young hipsters they imagine themselves to be. I like ios5 on my ipad but wont be touching anything ios6 until apple fixes their major screwup. I prefer android for my phone becaue it does more of what I want it to do. My older brother and mom prefer iphones because it is easier for them to use, and thats fine. They arent tech people and they want whats easy.

get over myself? lol .... what?

Anyway if you think that you're a geek cause you run android or android is geeky in any way or android is a complex system, you're an idiot.

Android is a dumbed down os too....
