Is it worth it? Is the AT&T service good enough to switch from Verizon?

Sorry if this has been posted a bunch.

Thanks for the information though, much appreciated.

I switched from Verizon to AT&T to get my iPhone and I'm glad I did.:)

sweet. I just need to find out if my local store sells the new 3G iPhones. My contract is up with Verizon, but in order to port my # I sign up with AT&T first right? I'll probably call just to make sure before I lose my number.

I also switched from Verizon to AT&T just for the iphone and I'm loving it!

Make the jump! You can always return it if it's not to your liking.

Right. Don't cancel with Verizon. To port the number you need all your Verizon account info and the account MUST BE ACTIVE.

When you buy your iphone, tell them you want to port your # and they'll ask for all your Verizon info.

I made the switch and won't ever go back :)

ATT has some faults, but the iPhone + ATT > Verizon + any Verizon phone.

100% agree, but I have not got my first bill yet... At&t is not the best company (even thought Verizon is great) At&t + iPhone 3G is amazing!!!

I also love MobileMe which has really made life easier in helping my wife and me be organized!!!

I'm waiting for my iPhone to arrive (I ordered through the AT&T store) so I can make the switch from Verizon. Yes, you have to keep your existing account active for the port to go through.

I'll miss the great Verizon coverage, but I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the iPhone 3G. :D

I switched from altel to atat for the iPhone. Altel coverage is better than AT&T here, but it's very passable and the phone is amazing of course

I switched the family plan to AT&T for the iPhone.

I placed the order through DF and went ahead and opened my AT&T account that day and had my numbers ported. They gave us some really bad Nokia phones to use until the iPhones come, which BTW will be tomorrow.

They were really nice and I had an awesome CSR.

DONT SWITCH FROM VERIZON!!! The new BB Thunder (all touch screen) is coming out by the end of the year. I would hold off for it, if I didn't already have the iphone. It is suppose to be awesome.

Really depends where you are. I'm in NYC and here, NOTHING beats Verizon's signal. AT&T is okay, but the 3g signal is patchy at best. I've had more dropped calls than I ever did with Verizon, but it's not terrible. It's really all worth it because of the iphone :D

If your still under contact, and have to pay that nasty EFT, I would wait, just like I did last year. When the 1st one came out, I wanted it really bad. I held out though.

So far, that only thing I hate is that my employee discount is not going to show up for 2 billing cycles. Kinda annoying. Also, some of the ATT reps have no idea what they are talking when you call. Ive had to speak to 3 or 4 different reps because they didnt understand changing my texting plan (just needed a discount added to text plan, and was finally done).

Good luck with your decision.

I just switched from Verizon for the new iPhone and I don't know how I ever lived without this thing. I LOVE it! It was definitely worth it for me and whoever has the iPhone in the coming years, I will go to that carrier.

what are some of the faults that AT&T has compared to Verizon?
From my experience and where I've lived with cell phones (OH, MA, NYC, SoCal), Verizon has much better coverage than AT&T. Dropped calls were not unexpected when I was talking to my friends with AT&T/Cingular Wireless, whereas with Verizon it's rare. That definitely depends on your region, and I understand there are places where AT&T is the best choice. I just haven't happened to have experienced any of them. :p

With 3G, a lot of those issues will be lessened, which is one of the reasons I finally made the jump.

I know this is a matter of personal opinion and experience, but I have had no complaints with Verizon's customer service in 11 years. There have been the ocassional snarky reps, but overall, I've had good experiences, and all of my issues have been addressed appropriately. I haven't always heard the same from Cingular/AT&T customers.

AT&T is lucky they're the ones who made the deal with Apple. ;) I know of between 8-12 people who, like me, wanted iPhones, but didn't want to switch to AT&T. I'm only the third to give in. Once Apple fixes a few more of the glitches/oversights, there will probably be a couple more. If Verizon had made the deal, people would have been switching and porting at even higher numbers than are happening now.

I too will be making the switch from Verizon. My contract is up on August 7th. Should I go to the AT&T store and order the iphone now so that I can activate it when my Verizon contract is up or will AT&T make me sign a contract that starts right away?

I ordered through the AT&T store, and didn't sign anything (except the CC slip), and won't until the phone is in my grubby little hands. :D

This billing cycle with Verizon ends on the 26th, and I'm hoping and praying that I'll be able to port by then.

LOL, time will tell... I was very happy with Verizon and had been with them for the past six years but I made the switch in order to get the iphone and I'm glad that I did. I'm in a 3G area and haven't had a single dropped call, get great reception, and so far no complaints related to AT&T. You can always go back to Verizon if you're not happy but you may be locked in to a new two year commitment with them at that point.

Well, Blackberry is awful for syncing with Macs. I use a Treo now, and the Palm OS is bad enough, but RIM? Forget it!

I made the switch early this year and this is my thought on the iphone and att vs verizon.
The iPhone on ATT is superior hardware on an inferior network.

I made the jump a week ago when i got my iPhone. The service has been amazing if not better then what i had on Verizon. I liked Verizon's network, but their phones suck, the customer service is *****, and well they don't have the iPhone. I'm an apple fan not an att, but so far I've been very happy with AT&T and only think the network is going to get better with the large influx of new users on iPhones.

i made the switch from verizon to AT&T and couldn't be happier. no problems with calls yet, and verizon has nothign to remotely compete with the iphone.

what people seem to be missing here is that.. just because your contract ends doesnt mean they shut off your phone. you just kinda go free floating. kinda like if you had a lease that after a year went month to month (except you arent even constrained to a whole month). so what is the downside? well you miss out on upgrades i suppose. i mean i went over a year out of contract with verizon. no problem. they dont just shut you off. of course every time you talk to them they try to get you to upgrade your phone and get a new contract but... so that gave me the freedom to switch whenever i wanted rather than waiting for a specific date. so... let your contract expire then when you get a chance pick up the iphone and switch. no problem
