what people seem to be missing here is that.. just because your contract ends doesnt mean they shut off your phone. you just kinda go free floating. kinda like if you had a lease that after a year went month to month (except you arent even constrained to a whole month). so what is the downside? well you miss out on upgrades i suppose. i mean i went over a year out of contract with verizon. no problem. they dont just shut you off. of course every time you talk to them they try to get you to upgrade your phone and get a new contract but... so that gave me the freedom to switch whenever i wanted rather than waiting for a specific date. so... let your contract expire then when you get a chance pick up the iphone and switch. no problem

Ditto that. I wascontractless for a while, waiting for my precious iphone.

I switched from Verizon to AT&T to get my iPhone and I'm glad I did.:)

Me too. AT+T coverage improved a TON in recent years and I have noticed no difference from Verizon here in SoCal and last week in the bay area.

Also: I like that I have all the functionality of my phone. The way Verizon cripples their phones was a constant source of annoyance.

Finally, the AT+T website blows Verizon away. Everything there on the first page. Not click click click click click to get basic info.

So worth it.

And then of course: iPhone.

When I switched, I also did Verizon to AT&T

Verizon service is much better reception wise down here but I think the iPhone plus the fact that reception for AT&T isn't TOO BAD down here.....put me over the top

Are you happy with the phone? If not, switch unless AT&T has no service around you

att coverage

i got my new Iphone july11 and live in CB Iowa. I had Sprint for about 3 years and Verizon b4 that. Never had a dropped call and could use both networks anywhere in my house. I can't with ATT -fairmont park area. My brother-in-law lives about 1 mile from me and has the same problem. I called ATT about it they said they are "working on it". I'm still within my 30 day free look period but can't take the iphone anywhere. Called Verizon - Not on the GSM network. Sprint isn't either. T-Mobile doesn't have any better coverage. Any suggestions?::mad: email me at npaul66@yahoo.com with any suggestions.

Don't do it, I did it and had to return my IPHONE 3g due to AT&T getting 1 bar or "No Service" at the crib. But when I had my verizon phone it had full 5 bars all the time!

That is due to your location, which I guess has poor AT&T service. Not a national one

Friends of mine have that type of problem with different companies around here where Company A has terrible coverage yet B/C

Unless your area has great AT&T reception, don't even consider it. Your provider is more important than the phone that you use. The best phone in the world is worthless if you don't have good reception.

Agreed

AT&T is incredibly average down here and I took the chance and don't regret it BUT it still can be incredibly annoying not to get calls that others can get in the simplest of locations

at&t horrible

Have had verizon for 8 years, finally got the iphone with at&t and within the first 24 hours had 4 dropped calls, more than i had in the last four months with verizon. no fading in and out, just dropped. 9 years ago i had cingular, it was better back then before at&t took over! phone is unbelievable, so great that i am thinking about getting a cheap phone from verizon (that i never should have closed my account with) and seeing if i can have my calls forwarded to the verizon phone. even with all the bars showing, the calls drop. i am in baltimore and i could use my verizon phone anywhere. when does the contract with apple and at&t end?

Really depends where you are. I'm in NYC and here, NOTHING beats Verizon's signal. AT&T is okay, but the 3g signal is patchy at best. I've had more dropped calls than I ever did with Verizon, but it's not terrible. It's really all worth it because of the iphone :D

At least you can make calls with AT&T in areas where Verizon has no signal. I have seen that a lot in Texas.

Make sure your iphone has the latest 2.1 firmware update. I had a ton of drop calls with the older ones before that update and now hardly have any.

Hello, I do not know how to PM. I am switching to AT&T and would love your help + the $25 gift card. Thank you very much

DONT SWITCH FROM VERIZON!!! The new BB Thunder (all touch screen) is coming out by the end of the year. I would hold off for it, if I didn't already have the iphone. It is suppose to be awesome.

LOL, as "awesome" as either of the Storms? (sarcasm, sorry, just had to.)
But seriously, if you want the iPhone, get the iPhone. Nothing else is the same. Similar, possibly even very nice...but not the same.
