I've just bought myself an S3 (i know the S4 is coming soon however i got a bargain price!) and i'm looking to make it a permanent switch as after using an iPhone for nearly 4 years. However, i have a few questions im hoping i can get answered to make the switch easier.

I have a Macbook Air and would like to know:

1. Is there a programme similar to iTunes to sync my music and playlists?
2. A programme similar to iPhoto
3. Any other recommendations you can think of in terms of me making the most of the android OS?

Thanks in advance

1. Try DoubleTwist and if you want wireless sync add AirTwist to it.

2. Not sure. Photoshop touch possibly.

3. Most apps are available on iOS & Android so you should be able to get most of your iOS apps on Android in order to help the migration.

You could also check out Google Music for syncing and storing your music on Android (assuming its available in your country).

Do you like the screen?

I ask this because I again walked into a carrier store and played with a z10, 8x, and s3 and note 2 for more than an hour combined.

The AMOLED is still too warm. I adjusted it and I still don't like reading text on it.

And I don't know why, but I kept on gravitating towards the 8x and z10 more and more no matter how hard I tried to move away.

Just sucks they are both struggling. I feel as if I keep checking the android phones because of all the forum echoing that my iPhone sucks and is crap and android is so much better. I am not a hater and I do like android, but seriously the other two phones just had something that I kept preferring them as my iPhone replacement.

I think its time to take a hiatus from forums /sigh.

1. I know a lot of people move their music over to Google music which offers free cloud streaming to all your devices

2. Turn on photosync with Google+. It uploads your photos to a private album or Dropbox.

Is it easy to get your music library from iTunes onto a galaxy device? How is it done?

I believe you just drag your iTunes files onto the online version of Google music. I can't really help there since I use streaming services only.

Yeah if you use DoubleTwist you can use its interface to choose albums/playlists you want to sync.

Alternatively connect your phone as a mass storage device and simply drag and drop the files into a music folder on your SGS3.

1. Google Music syncs with your iTunes Library over the cloud and can play the music offline so you don't have to give up using iTunes.

2. You can keep using iPhoto! Just have photos upload to Drop Box and you can drag them into your iPhoto Library at your convenience!

If you want the music files actually ON your device, I'd probably go the route of DoubleTwist.
If you're willing to stream all your music, I'd suggest using Google Music. It gives you the option to sync your iTunes library when you download and install the Google Music Manager.
Where+do+you+keep+music+collection+-+Google+Music.jpg

Whenever you update your iTunes library, it will automatically update and upload your music to Google Music. The downside of this is you have to use the Play Music app to access and stream your music. I don't believe there is another music player on Android that is able to stream from Google Play Music.

If you go the route of just syncing the files to your phone with DoubleTwist, or copying them, I'd suggest purchasing the PowerAMP app. It's just about the best music player on Android.

I just did the exact same switch. Check out smooth sync for calendar and contacts. Lets you keep then synced across platforms via iCloud. It's great for a mixed os household.

Also remember, if you sign up for dropbox you get an extra 50GB for free because you have a Samsung phone!

Is there anything I need to do to get this, I have had a Samsung phone for a year but only have the 5GB account (created before got the phone), Would I need to create a new DropBox account

To the OP

I use iSyncr for iTunes syncing, works very nice but I have also been using Google Music recently

For photos, check out Picasa, even has an iPhoto import

Please elaborate on this? I too had no idea about this or how to get the 50gb upgrade. I know if you buy a nexus 4 you get 50gb of box storage, but they email you the details.

Heres a link to an FAQ on teh Dropbox website - https://www.dropbox.com/help/297/en

Although when I got my Galaxy S3 and the missus got her Tab 10.1 - Dropbox wasnt already installed, so not sure that part of the guide is correct as we had to download the app and still got the extra storage.

I guess the reason it does not work is b.c the carrier do not preload the device with dropbox....aka they do not support the program.

Possibly, although I bought my S3 unlocked in the UK and had to download the Dropbox app from the play store and still received my 50GB.

It amazes me how AT&T continually finds ways not to service their customer base. Opting out of this Dropbox promotion, not installing many key free apps in order to try and drive more revenue through its own apps; not allowing the larger memory S4's for sale, in an attempt, IMHO to get people to stream more and save less locally.

You're absolutely correct on this re: AT&T. I'm hoping that at some point, Samsung is able to become as dominant with carriers as Apple is and stop letting them dictate so many things about their own phones. AT&T (or any of the other carriers) aren't fooling the public as they become more and more knowledgeable about how they get screwed over and lose features. There's really no defense for the way carriers hold firmware hostage, disable or delete features from new phones, and just generally screw their customers out of the best mobile experience possible.

I think only T-Mobile allowed you to have it, maybe Sprint too. As i recall AT&T and Verizon didnt allow it though it was said to be a perk along with the GS3 before it came to the USA.
If you go to Dropbox.com there are ways to get more free space.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
I got 25 gigs free when I bought the AT&T One X so I don't think it's mainly a carrier issue.

I was also able to get the 50 gigs free by using a little trickery via the build prop files. Basically I was able to make my HOX appear as a GS3 in order to qualify. So that's 75 gigs worth of pure unadulterated virtual storage.

Gotta love being rooted.

Cool tip. Stealing is awesome.
