So you have SATSMARTDriver.kext in the right place. Can you delete the one in /Library/StageExtensions/Library/Extensions/ and reboot?

How did you install SATSMARTDriver?

Lots of useful posts from yourself. I am still not certain that SATSMARTDriver is the problem for @ivnj Hopefully we can fix it up without getting to a non-boot situation! Based on the posts here, do you think that the kext in Staged Extensions is the issue?

The error shown in the opening post complains about system extensions, not kernel extensions (kext file extension).
Apple's language doesn't like to admit to the presence of kernel extensions, even though they are necessary for some things. All kernel extensions are installed to /Library/Extensions whereas system and network extension are in /Library/SystemExtensions. All seem to be lumped under the term system extension in user facing alerts, etc.

Since @ivnj's Mac does seem to have SATSMARTDriver installed, at some point in the past security settings must have been reduced.

I don't have that kext installed on my M3 Mac, only in my Intel iMac for which SIP has to be temporarily disabled to allow installation.

SATSMARTDriver appears to be the only third-party extension installed. I would uninstall it completely, rebuild kext caches, and (if really needed) install again the latest version. https://binaryfruit.com/drivedx/usb-drive-support

It won't let me delete it and I don't remember how it got there.

You can clear staged extensions with this command:
Code:
sudo kextcache --clear-staging

It got there because that's where extensions go before they're approved in the privacy and security settings pane.
