For many acting is just a way to parlay your fame into greater wealth. Jessica Alva is super rich running a business. So is Clooney. It’s the Kanye model. Fame in one area leads to super wealth by using that popularity and brand to move in more profitable directions. Interesting world now.

These corporate mergers are always bad for consumers. Time to break up companies like T-mobile, not let them buy their competition

Just wait until the layoffs start. The carnage will be epic.

I could never tell, did renolyds actually OWN the company behind Mint? When I was looking to switch (dump) AT&T, Mint seemed like just a cheaper T-Mobile anyway. The merger could be interesting.

Everyone has a price. I was carping at a conference about a supplier selling out, and how everyone has a price and that I wouldn't sell out. They started throwing numbers at me for my house. I said I'd never sell, but had to admit that eventually the idea of that amount of money DID look great. I was trying to be realistic, and so were they. They didn't open with 20 million. *shrug* Can't blame someone for wanting/getting more money, but their customers. Hmm... How many will bolt.

I was with T-mobile till Project Fi came out as it was cheaper and mostly just used T-Mobile in my city, then moved to Mint when I heard about them. I'm on my 3rd year of Mint with 0 issues at all. I also have no plans to leave them until I hear of other changes. As I already paid up my next year (for just $203 after fees/taxes) I likely wont have to care about any changes till that's over.

I had hoped Ryan wouldn't sell, but as he was just a controlling stake, not the full owner, in Mint and Mint did have a parent company after all, and THAT is what T-Mobile bought, it's unknown how much say Ryan had. Either way, I can't blame him for wanting to start getting rid of things so that he can focus more on movies, his Football team and future retirement. Hes never done anything that has made me think he's just in it for a payday.

That said, I still see them as less evil than Verizon, Comcast and AT&T. I'd want to deal with those companies first before I worried about T-Mobile. The time to start worrying about breaking companies up was when AT&T bought Cingular. Or when Comcast got its size by buying up EVERY small cable provider around.

i didnʻt like that you had to pre-pay for a whole year to get their cheapest plan...i would move back to mint, however, if they now had apple watch plans, since MVNOs donʻt. and i hate visible...
Currently, the MVNOs that have Apple Watch plans are Xfinity Mobile and Visible.

Maybe, but I’ve been with them for years with no price increase, cheaper than ATT/VXW, and have had features added at the same time. I tend to believe the only increase might be if governments raise fees to the point they need to pass them on.
Hopefully, the Mint Mobile plan don't change.. much.
But when a company is bought out, changes may not happen quickly, historically shown. It may take awhile buying the parent company starts changing things like slowly increasing prices to consumers, which tend to happen.
Also, layoffs may occur, as personnel from the old company may be let go if positions are not found in the new company, which also tends to happen.
Time will tell what'll truly happen after the buyout.

I wonder if this means that Mint Mobile will start being compatible with iPhone. Last I checked, it was NOT compatible.
I check year(s) ago (can’t remember when) and iPhone was supported. AppleWatch cellular was not. Things may have changed.

Now knowing Mint ran off of T-Mobile I wonder why the watch was not supported?

I love Tmobile but their system is an absolute nightmarish mess of legacy junk. Once or twice a year I have to go in, and I mean phsyically go into a location, and tie up an employee or two to get them to call in to the support staff to straighten out the account and it always takes them half a day. Adding another companies customer base on the fire should help that lol

Wow. I admire Rynolds for achieving so much business success on top of box office success. I never liked him as an actor and I find him really bad and annoying, but I seriously admire his achievements. He sure came a long way from Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place!

U.S. carrier T-Mobile today announced that it plans to acquire Mint Mobile, the affordable smartphone brand that is promoted by and backed by actor Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds and T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert teamed up for a video letting customers know about the coming acquisition.

I hesitate to ask... will it no longer be affordable?

I still can't comprehend why American mobile plans are so expensive compared to European ones.

Isn't the free market supposed to ensure lower prices through heavy competition?

Not even mint mobile has low prices compared to most E.U. countries.

Which begs the question, is the cell service market not free in America? Is there some crazy monopoly? Or is the government burdening it with fees and regulations?

The same goes for Internet access -Why so expensive?

They're real. I got a friend who uses Mint Mobile as their carrier and they've been extremely satisfied.

For many Mint customers though they're worried T-Mobile is gonna do their shenanigans on them now that they're owned by T-Mobile.

I've been with T-Mobile on and off, mostly on, for 20 years and never been unhappy. Reason I switched myself and the wife to MINT was "almost the same service (no roaming in the sticks), half the price, and 7x the amount of data".

They really aren't. You need to remember that the prices are ALL inclusive. Calls to and from landlines and mobiles are all included in the monthly price and the area served is huge. All of the US, and often including Canada and Mexico.

It's literally cheaper for me to call a German number, land line or mobile, than it is for somebody in Germany.

But the need for traditional calling has lessened with the rise of Internet communication. If the European plans include lots of (or unlimited) data they have arguably better value.
