Did someone say Vampire???

Man, I wish Unicode 10 was around back in the 90's during my industrial/goth University years!!

Kids today are so spoiled.

"Undead, undead, undead ".
:D

I just wished they release emoji updates for all iOS versions. My friend who has a 4S on iOS 9 can't see all the emojis from my iOS 10 so they get squares.

As long as you can edit your emoji space. I only use a few. This is because I'm older than 9 and have a functioning brain.
(BTW, I'm sure there's an emoji for this condition)

Big question: Currently APFS supports unicode 9.0 however is it possible for Apple to update it to Unicode 10 cleanly? I ask that because I've watched a couple of presentations on APFS and it appears that they can upgrade the feature set of the filesystem without all hell breaking lose so I'm wondering whether we'll see support come in a future update to 10.13 (aka 10.13.x).

Other than those who've lived or live in the US, majority of people don't know what fortune cookies and Chinese take out boxes are.
The people who created this patch of Emoji are ____.

or its a new generation and these are popular at the time and you all are too afraid to just accept it..

With more emojis and fidget spinners what has this world come too
I DEMAND A FIDGET SPINNER EMOJI!!!1!

Fourth row down on the right: That's a baby? I thought it was a lady cradling her.. um.. mammaries.
I expect its the emoji for breastfeeding. A sport not previously represented. It's difficult to do a 16 pixel square picture that unambiguously gets the point across without also upsetting someone somewhere for its "graphic" nature.

Unicode is a standard that was built with extension in mind. All that has happened here is that of the over a million possible code points a few have got a new defined value, and over time glyphs for these values will be added to a few fonts. You could use these characters _today_, and all that happens is that a "missing symbol" character will be displayed.

As far as the file system is concerned, they realised ages ago that extending the Unicode character set could be a problem. As a result, as far as the file system is concerned, mappings are done according to the Unicode 4.2 standard, and this will never change. An Emoji from Unicode 9 or 10 or Unicode 27 will be interpreted as "Unicode character with unknown meaning" and can be used in a filename without any problems. The file system doesn't need to know that an Emoji means "female vampire with light brown skin color", it only needs to know whether two Emojis are the same or not, and it can know that without knowing the actual meaning.

You had to go and say it... I hold you personally responsible for the consequences.

That's what separates us from the machines. Machines can ignore nonsense, they only care if it's the same nonsense. We try to infuse it with meaning and babble on and on for pages about the deep political implications of a tassel on a baby's hat.

The continuing evolution of the dumbing down of the population.
Emoji add emotional context to text conversations, which can easily come across as impersonal. At face value, some pictographs may be considered useless, but different emoji can completely alter the interpretation of messages akin to enhanced punctuation marks. There is value in being able to communicate sarcasm, humor, and even innuendo through text, particularly as it becomes the primary conduit of conversation for the majority of people. Describing this paradigm shift in communication as a "Dumbing down" is merely an ignorant dismissal.

I quite admire the skills of one top troller in these comments (I won't name them) who is spitting and moaning about emoji, then continues to use them in every post on the page.

Now that is some brass balls top trollage.

Personally I love emoji, more the better.

I like the "cooking man/woman" emoji. Apple introduces ambiguity to the meaning of this emoji. The rest of the platforms where it's a steam room emoji.
