as of late, alot of people on the techie sites have been pretty much saying that tabbed browsing is way better than the regular way of browsing, and that tabbed browsing is the future. i like tabbed browsing, but i'm not really a fan of it, preferring the regular way of browsing with each web page having it's own window, as tabbed browsing can get quite cluttered. but i think tabbed browsing has it's place, but for me, it's not way better than standard browsing.

your thoughts?

I think it's vastly less cluttered. Example? I can have one window open w/ tabs with different MR threads and whatnot. One window say, open to an e-tailer and each tab on that window can be a different item I'm looking to buy. :p Presto. Only two windows open instead of a gazillion.

Tabbed browsing all the way. I'm surprised to know that there's someone who knows of tabbed browsing, and yet still prefers regular browsing. Tabbed browsing is one of the greatest innovations in browsing since...the back button. :)

tabbed!

i prefer tabbed browsing as it keeps things less cluttered.

it's also easier to close one window with a bunch of tabs in it, rather than rushing to close 6 windows when my boss walks in.

i'm still not quick enough with the F11 key! ;)

I very much prefer tabbed browsing, just for the ease of it and the less cluttered-ness. I like it so much that I installed Firefox on the XP computer I use at school. :D

I have a hard time understanding why you think tabbed browsing is more cluttered than windows. I mean, all you need is one window and you can have many different websites open. Maybe I am unaware of a way, but the only thing that would make tabs even better to me is to have a keyboard command for switching between them.

There is! :) If you use Firefox, it's control-tab to cycle through, or cmd-1 for the first tab, cmd-2 for the second, etc. I'm sure Safari has something similar.

i think it's complex, as i tab on my windows pc using firefox and i tend to get lost trying to find out what is where. like sometimes, i'm trying to find my yahoo page, but i seem to forget it's underneath a tab in another window, which makes organization very bad for me. i like to see all my safari windows at once on expose instead of playing the guessing game and losing time.

that's just my feelings about tabbed browsing. and also, when you get a bunch open, you can hardly read what was on the page you were reading, losing more time.

tabbed browsing is okay, just isn't my flavor.

I like tabbed browsing. Once you use it and like it, it's really hard to go back to regular browsing. When I got my iMac and didn't know that you had to check off something in prefs. to allow tabbed browsing, that was one of the first things that I asked about here on MR.

Ahhh, I think telling people new to the Mac about the preference panels is one the first things I do. I would say that most of the problems or questions switchers have cne be solved in the preferences of either the program or the system.

That was my missing link. I hate having to click on tabs to switch between them. On MR it works perfect because in Forum Spy, when you click on a post, it opens a new tab, and as soon as I'm done I can hit Command+W to go back to Forum Spy very easily. But when browsing lots of different sites at the same time, I liked each to have their own window to Command+~ to cycle through pages.

Can you cycle through tabs without having to number them?

yes, u don't need to number them, firefox numbers them for u, if u don't want to use number key, fn+ctrl+up/down arrow key can cycle through.

even better, if u install any one of several page thumbnail preview extensions, u can get preview of each tab and click the one u want quick.

It's gotta be tabs, they make everything so much easier. The day I downloaded Firefox for my PC laptop, I was enlightened :)

tabbed all the way - i always have at least 25+ tabs. iirc ppl claimed that tabbed browsing used less sys resource (or at least in windows).

No offense, but what is the problem with clicking the tab to switch? You move your mouse (or finger on a trackpad; whatever you use..) a few inches, and click.... If it gets any easier, we're too lazy.

not for me, it makes things so much harder. sometimes i don't know where i put a site, and i can lose them very easily. maybe it's just personal, as i would like to see all the sites i'm on all at once visually instead of just one with the others hiding underground.

when i do that sometimes, you lose the text of the tabs, and then you have to start searching one by one which page you really want to go.

maybe i'm just one of the weird ones. :)
