So I think I've cracked this code.

A few Apple sites (Fan sites) are posting that there might be a tablet shown tomorrow. I happen to think this is true. Here's why:

Premium App Store. (Desktop style apps in the AppStore.) Think like iWork, iLife...

The rumors about a 10" touch screen. That's pretty self explanatory.

If we do see a 10" touch screen device, people will need to build some apps for it. In order to have a fully stocked "Premium App Store," we will need to know about it some time ahead.

That's what I've got. What are your thoughts?

Highly unlikely, fair bit of hardware has been announced recentley, I could see it later in the year for the Christmas market

Even so, would devs need time to build high-quality desktop-like apps?

People have been posting that there "might" be a tablet/netbook/snow leopard release tomorrow/next tuesday/next month/next year for a long time now. Speculation is fun, but it gets really tiring after a while.

True but this time we know something is up since Apple ordered the screens.

That story broke, what... 4 or 5 days ago? Do you honestly believe that the screens can be assembled into working units and delivered to a global infrastructure (or at least national, depending on release dates) in that period of time?

No, I don't. What I'm thinking is that it'll be released at WWDC or October. Announced with an SDK tomorrow.

Jason Snell, Editor, Macworld magazine, April 2009 issue:

"Apple's not in the business of creating supercheap products for the bottom of the market. But would a $500 iPhone OS-based tablet netbook sell? You know, I think it would."

I also agree with Macworld's Editor's statement.

I think there is little chance I think of a $299 netbook or tablet, and that should be left for someone like Acer or Dell. But something at $499 would be received warmly with us Apple folk, even with the recession. If it's a mini notebook, single Intel Atom processor, with OS X and Apple's legendary industrial design, then many would love to pay only $499 being that it will outlast PC notebooks by three times. If it's a $499 super 10" inch iPod/iPhone touchscreen netbook, then I think people will literally be lined up outside of the doors of Apple stores around the world. The funny thing is that I somewhat prefer a physical keyboard to a touchscreen, but the touchscreen has that wow factor that the MSI Wind and Acer Aspire One do not have with their traditional keyboards.

I think tomorrow is likely to bring more of a progress report on Snow Leopard and a definite ship date. But Snow Leopard and a netbook/super iPod or iPhone would be a really big boost for Apple Inc, especially right after the decent all around desktop upgrades and earlier introduction of a 17" Macbook Pro. I hope all this will up Apple's stock and while people won't ditch the market altogether, companies that stand out will reap rewards in lean times like this.

Investors will always recognize value and Apple has is, or has regained it in a way they should rebound in stock value.

"No escape from Reality...”
^^^ but isn't it also for iPhone 3.0?

Maybe iPhone 3.0 is what will run on the Tablet?

Developers will need to see the Tablet early so by its release, I think by the start of school this Fall, there's plenty of Apps to go around.

iPhone/Touch Apps
Rumored Tablet and Apps
Rumored AppleTV Apps

So many Apps, so little time and money...

Why would a iphone OS 3.0 event be a place for apple to give a progress report on snow leopard?

I remember in town just outside of WWDC and I was waiting for some "developer" news, and they announced an iBook revision, but we were delighted anyway. :)

When something noteworthy happens at Apple, they will use just about any outlet (Macworld, WWDC, Time magazine) to announce their product to the world. And now with Apple not committing to Macworld, then it's more likely Apple will just announce whatever they want whenever they want and be more like Dell and HP and put stuff out.

I think Apple waiting for a "scheduled event" and possibly withholding a product a month or few months just to wait for Steve Jobs (or top Apple exec) to make a show out of it, definitely hurt Apple in missed sales.

I say just put it out as soon as it is ready. Us Mac folk will let the world know via word of mouth. And rumor sites like us often know before the rest of the world as this site saw stuff coming before announced date: (iPhone, iPod, iPod Shuffle, lampshade iMac, TiBook, new Mac mini, etc).

Highly unlikely. Tomorrow is going to be about iPhone OS 3.0, nothing else. A tablet would be released during WWDC, or a very large media event.

Large media events won't happen until, and if, Steve Jobs comes back to Apple Inc. as an active CEO. If tomorrow is a minor thing, then so be it.

If it's a major event for Apple, it will just be a tiny thing in the news without Steve. Part of what made any Apple issue something noteworthy was Steve Jobs' spin on it.

He could offer a slightly better laptop, but in a "new" color and wow the media with it. Anybody else would look stupid doing that. Think back to his grand spectacle of the lime iBook. It was a comment of awe with Bill Gates with how Steve Jobs could captivate an audience over basically nothing big outside of a new color.

Ah you can see that from either end.

It is possible Apple would want to roll out something huge while he is away. Simply to prove that they can and SJ (while awesome and cool) is all Apple is made of.

Just a random though...

The back of beyond.
I think they'll introduce the foundations of the tablet tomorrow, but the tablet won't be mentioned or shown. They'll simply say something about Apps running on "other devices".

That is genius! All the rumors about the Premium App Store focus on games, but I never thought of it being used for other apps too. I would say these apps might need a larger display to run, or at least are optimized for both the regular display and a larger display. Also I see additional features, maybe some from Mac OS X, like tabs.

No comment on likelihood though. I'm betting we won't hear about such a device at the event. We might get hints though (like the post above me). WWDC or later are more likely.

I agree too. I just think a larger iPod touch (mini-tablet) is more likely than a smaller MacBook (Air). Also since Mac OS X requires more overhead and system requirements than iPhone OS, a Mac OS X device would cost significantly more than an iPhone OS device. Price-wise, I agree that $500 is a good price point, although I see higher prices for larger flash memory capacities. Lower I'm not sure, since the iPod touch tops out at $399. Maybe the reason why we haven't seen a 64 GB iPod touch yet is because that would push the touch's price into mini-tablet territory? Or are 32 GB flash chips still not here yet?

Today?

Tablet?

Doubts. BUT--what about that Mar. 24th meeting???
That meeting is for hardware. What hardware?? They've updated everything. Hope it isn't some after-the-fact press conference. If it isn't what will they reveal?.... Monitors? Could be the unveiling, since the Edison template is to prepare the consumers for the device before the release. There is no mystery that a 10" something is coming in the Fall, so they might just reveal it on the 24th.

I hope.

Hope + Apple = Disappointment.

That is genius! All the rumors about the Premium App Store focus on games, but I never thought of it being used for other apps too.

Get out. Is that sarcasm? That was the first thing I thought of--Apple switching all software to online downloads and offering DVDs for extra cash. makes sense.

If they go that way I just hope they let owners keep infinite download rights, so they can reload if the drive dies.

Yeeaahhh, I sorely have to bend to your view of this MaxiPod.

Dammit. >.<!

From the slew of recent past rumors from "insiders" and "trusted sources" combined with the direction of Apple and the gaping hole in their product line, it is logical that this will be a $500-$1000 iPod Maxi instead of a MiniAir. I don;t think it will be so limited as an iPod, and will have greater capability, but I doubt it will have anything near a full OSX. Most likely it will run iWork and iLife (to a certain extent) while allowing the thing to be a data entry pad, media player, web surfer, game thingy.

I now doubt it will have the capability to do a limited Photoshop with stylus... but, who knows? If it can do that they'll sell tons. They wouldn't need everything PS can do, just the painting and vector stuff (no effects) which can allow pre-production of art on the tablet to be worked better on a fuller machine later.

If they can turn it out as a MaxiPod with enhanced surfing, gaming, data entry, connectivity and keep it around $500, they might do VERY well.

If they turn out a MaxiPod like that for $599, I would buy it.

If they turn out a MaxiPod like that for over $600, I think it will have tepid sales. $799 would be a total bomb if it can't run OSX. You can buy a full on laptop for only $999.
