I stand by my contents on the "disappearing scroll bars" issue. Yes, you can turn this very questionable "feature" off, but you shouldn't have to! Why is this feature "on" by default??? In its default state, it reduces productivity, not increases it. This isn't an esoteric discussion of artistic expression, this is real work, and that real work is impacted by misguided design choices like this.
talk about a non-issue. obviously, some ppl prefer to not see the scrollbars all the time. and for those that do (i do), it's a one-time, 5-second fix.

having options is a great thing. so, not sure what your point is...

My point is simple: GUI changes that reduce productivity are bad changes. That is all.
I personally like that the scroll bars auto hide. I always found them hideous looking. A giant grey bar down the side of the screen.

Anyhooo... is it just me or is it MUCH more difficult to grab the edge of a window to resize it in Tahoe? The 'hit state' must be tiny like 1 or 2 pixels wide. I can take me a few attempts to get it and sometimes its simply not there, especially on some corners.

Maybe smaller corners would help?! 🤔

I concur.

Apple seems to have lost sight of the value of "productivity" especially for those of us who actually use our computers for work.

Deeply in love and fully immersed in creating cutesy animations, Memoji, Liquid Glass visuals and such, the Cupertino company simply cannot resist their desire to amuse and entertain.

While it’s wise to attract young buyers to grow the user base, it’s also possible to offend and discourage those who spend vast amounts of money on equipment year after year.

i don't know of anyone who opens preview, then works with it. as above, i double-click a pdf, jpeg, png, screenshot... and preview opens. i do remember the last time i started by opening the app; it was never 🤣
I open preview every time I need to paste an image into a new file. This happens frequently because Music.app won't let you paste into the album art area if the song does not already have artwork. Another regression since iTunes.

Ugh.. Really?

I never realized this one.

Music App is so bad about actually applying metadata correctly that I now first put everything through MP3Tag before adding it to my music library.

I find preview impossible to do anything other than 'preview' a file which is what quicklook is for so almost never use preview. This is mainly because the tools seem to be extremely finicky (and unintuitive). Just deselecting a tool is a PITA for me anyway. It just annoys me how you just want to do a very quick edit but then spend 10 seconds fighting with the tool instead.

huh? i paste images into the info window in the music app all the time, have never needed preview as an intermediary.

you can literally just drag an image from the finder (or whever) into the artwork window...

and here, am also at a loss; what 'tool' are you fighting with?

i do quick edits in preview constantly; adjustments to size, dpi, color, sharpness. it's a great tool when i don't need more refined options (as in affinity photo). 🤷

Any really. I can never seem to get the tool to deactivate I have to click on another tool which obviously then that tool is activated. It's been like this forever. There's also supposed to be a quick 'blur' tool to redact things isn't there? To this day I still haven't found it?!

Also Remove Background is constantly greyed out so there's that too. Never once been able to use it.

This is not correct, it works most of the time. If not, click the window first. You'll get no visual indicator it is selected though, in contrast to iTunes.

Not that I know of. You can drag a solid square over content and some other workarounds but that’s it. Aren’t you mistaking it for the repair tools in Photos?
I've FOUND it! It only shows up on a PDF with text in it but not a JPEG or other type of file. Only taken about 10 years to realise this. You'd kind of think it would be greyed out like all the other tools you can't use at a particular time but no they choose to actually hide this one for whatever reason.

FYI putting a shape over the text doesn't get rid of the text. Anyone can put the PDF into an editor and see the text that's been 'redacted' (unless you make it a JPEG afterwards).

works for me every time. i drag a picture in, click 'okay'. done.

if i need privacy, that's exactly what i do. put a line thru anything i want hidden, then save as jpg or png.

EDIT: yikes, ALL of this is off-topic, tho.... 😳

I am often pasting images from another song, so there's no file initially, that's why I need preview to create the file.

When the song doesn't have any artwork, clicking in the empty space does not place the invisible cursor there to allow you to paste the image in the first place. When the song does have artwork, you can of course select it and paste over it. But when it does not, it's not possible. And yes I do know I can drag an image, that's why I need to use Preview to create in the first place.

Please re-read what I said. When the song does not initially contain artwork, it does not display a selection indicator, both in iTunes 12.x and Music.app. I have just tested this in both. For Music.app only, pasting does not work. You can drag an image, but you cannot paste. No amount of clicking in the whitespace, or trying to tab to it works, there is no way to paste into the artwork area.

Why is it that in Software everybody thinks that throwing out muscle memory is a good thing? Cars have the accelerator pedal on the right and the brake on the left. Yes, it is incredibly boring, but it builds really good muscle memory, so much so, that accelerating and stopping the car becomes an seemingly effortless task, that lets you focus on more important things.
because (most) ppl are (reasonably) intelligent, and can learn new things? and learning new things is an incredible gift for our little brains...
