No no, the meaning was that normally if you are hand holding the camera, then you can get more stability by resting it or yourself against something solid - like a fence post.
I had nothing to hold the camera or rest it.

Also I had to switch to auto mode since I could not figure out manual mode. I just held the camera still until the right shot came in my viewfinder.

Im somewhat suprised that it looks that good. Sure it's a little soft and I can see some fringing but considering the sensor that's a good shot.
I agree. Its a great shot for my Powershot. I challenged people on FB to take a similar shot using a phone. No one has responded.

Apples (no pun intended) and oranges. The two devices are fundamentally different, from lens construction & zoom range to sensor size. It's an inherently unfair comparison.

Yeah but everyone these days uses phones to take pictures and when you pull out a camera they may say "old school."

Who cares what people say? Who cares what everyone does? Just do what you want and makes you happy.
True. This is why I use my Canons mostly for taking photos and video. This is why I use a cable instead of a card reader. This is why I keep a SD card in Canon and do not reformat after every dump.

Check out this shot. Anyone is free to get info to see that it indeed was captured with my Powershot and not stolen from the internet.

Nicely done!
I wonder if you are opposed to doing post processing?
I downloaded your moon and did a few quick adjustments to show what can be done.
I hope that is ok.

What is post processing?
Using a program like Photoshop ,or lightroom or one of many others to make adjustments to the lighting, sharpness, tone etc of the photo. I believe even photos can do quite a bit now ( I don't use it).
I used free "photo editor" by dev MacGyver on my android tablet for the adjustments on your moon. Not sure if it is available for your iPad, but I think you can still get Snapseed for free.

I edit on my Mac since I take most shots using Canon but only have the photos app.

I just fired up the photos app (on high sierra) and it should work fine for you as you get started editing. I imagine it is even more powerful now.
Just double click a photo in Photos, then select edit on top right corner.
On right side you will now see your editing options.
Play with it and have fun.

Have used it a few times but most of what Canon produces don’t need editing in my POV.
