Well? What do y'all have to say about your minis? Give a shout-out, explain what it does for you, tell us all about your setup, etc. I'm really interested in this topic now, because I just ordered my very first new Apple product ever! Which is a mini! Yay!
 
I'm so tempted to buy a new mini to replace my G4 one but I'm nervous it won't run CS3 as well as an iMac would...Any input?
 
i am also keen to know the answer, i cant see any reasons spec wise as long]as its full of ram etc,
 
Bah. It'll run fine, it did on my friggin' 1.33GHz G4 iBook! Go for it!

keep on replyin'... i notice lotsa ppl here have minis...

EDIT: Beaten thrice! But my opinion still stands...
 
Since when did the requirements get so high anyway?

Oh BTW. I run Photoshop CS but Dreamweaver and Fireworks CS3 on my iBook, in case anyone cares.

I thought the new mini's came with 1 GB RAM standard?

Anyway, I love my Core Duo Mac mini. 1.83 GHz, 80 GB HDD, 512 MB RAM, SuperDrive. (Exact same model as yours, I'm guessing you bought refurb) It fulfills all my needs, and then some. Great little media machine, and also gaming isn't as shabby as some say. (GMA 950 is wayyyyyy underrated.) I could definitely use some more RAM, but right now I can't afford it. :eek:
 
I just picked up my CD Mac Mini yesterday and it's one amazing machine. It's quiet, efficient, tiny, and performs daily tasks well. I will be using it primarily as a media center device.

Well, I bought it from PowerMax... It was in the Special Deals section, not the new or refurb section. So, the answer to your question would be from PowerMax.


BTW everyone, the have last gen 1.66GHz Core Duo minis brand new for $488. Just FYI.

Before i got my iMac, I had a Core Duo Mac mini. The machine was great. It was the 1.66GHz Core Duo, 512MB RAM, 60GB HD, Combo Drive, Tiger 10.4.10. I had it hooked to a 19" Dell LCD and Microsoft keyboard and mouse. Understandably, it was slow since it had such a low amount of RAM. It ran Tiger very well with few hiccups, and it never crashed or had a kernel panic. If I didn't get my iMac, I would have kept my mini and upgraded the RAM. Overall, well worth the $$$.

Why? They both have an intel Core 2 Duo processor, both can have lots of RAM (up to 3GB of RAM for the Mac mini, 4GB for the iMac). Aside from the GPU and the 2.5" drive, there is no real difference between the iMac and the current Mac mini.

So yes, the iMac would be better because of its 3.5" drive, any hard drive swapping will be faster. However not everyone is editing 300ppi posters, and even a 4GB iMac would be swapping a lot in those cases anyway.

For what it's worth, my company (Cinnamon Peripherals) has always been run on a Mac mini (started on a G4/1.42, now on a Core 2 Duo/1.83). :D

The iMac can go much higher as far as the processor, and the GPU and drive play an important part in CS3. You can run CS3 on a mini (perhaps well), but I don't see the purpose in saving a few hundred on hardware when you're paying upwards of $1000 for software. Undeniably there would be a visible benefit in the iMac--or at least my argument rests on this assumption.

Anyways, the iMac has fewer cords. I have mild OCD--that alone is worth $200 to me.
