I'm convinced tattoos are all about a need for attention.

Tattoos to me are not a way to attract attention in anyway, i feel that tattoos are a way of self expression. Just like the way people buy clothes. People wear expensive clothes while others are humble in what they wear. Different strokes for different folks.

What's the story behind the skull with the flower?

And I don't find them to be for people who need attention. There are different groups of people out there. Those who just hate tattoos and couldn't care less about the story behind them, those who do not have them but want one but want to make sure their decision is the one they can stick with forever, and those who have them-made up their mind and went for it.

Perhaps there are more groups but I fall in the middle. I want but I can't decide yet where and what. The what is pretty decided or the basic premise of the what is there, but the where is really the killer.

:)

But I still want to know the story on the first.

why do you say that? normally tattoo's represent how some one thinks or is, i see no way of gaining attention in that

People express themselves in different ways, which is fine. Just seems like a lot of people with tattoos have this "hey look at my new ink" thing going on.

I just don't get it, but that's my problem not anyone else's.

To me, unless you are completely covered in them, they look trashy.

Again, just my opinion - nothing personal against people with tattoos.

I got that tattoo a while ago because of my grandmother she passed away of colon cancer and we were really close, and in mexico where she was from they celebrated the day of the dead and the skull is a day of the dead skull and she believed a lot in that and when she passed i got the skull, I have a scroll on my left under arm with her loving memory stuff :D. I miss my grams.

id like to know that story as well

I've been seriously considering recently getting a tattoo... not something big or obvious... ideally I'd like to have something really small and simple so it looks like it could have just been drawn on me in pen, and in a place where it could easily be covered if necessary- like the bottom of my forearm or something.

I'd need to think about it for a while first though

edit: something like these would be fun :D

I have one small tattoo on my wrist. I think that tattoos are stupid if someone gets one just because they think its cool. My tattoo has a lot of personal meaning for me. It wasnt something i did spontaneously, i thought about it for a long time.

Props if you can guess the language and what it says. ;)

I think that is so true, I have always had a meaning for all the tattoos that i have, I started my sleeve about a year ago and never got to finish it cause bills bills oh and wait more bills poped up the to top it off iim getting married next year so thats another bill lol oh well, but I used to work at a tattoo shop and I used to see people that came in that wanted a bird and i would ask them so what does the meaning of the bird mean and what did they say o it looks pretty and i wanted it on my lower back. My sleeve has so much meaning to it and when i get it finished it will mean the world to me :D. but i'll take a wild guess at the writing? turkish?

Nah! Turkish uses the same script as English with a few extra letters. Is it Hebrew?

Anyway, Turkish doesn't like tattoos.:p Are you Turkish, Turkish?

I have cousins who have lots of tattoos. They look trashy.

Several of them have Asian writing on them. They can't read them but they think it's cool. I think it's stupid to get a tattoo in another language unless you can read it, for all they know the tattoo says "Orange Chicken" or something. One cousin already had several girls names covered up with different tatoos because he broke up with them.

I have one tattoo... an arm band I designed for myself about 10 years ago. Amazingly, it is still quite dark after all this time.

racerx_tattoo.jpg

The design is based on the Spaceing Guild insignia from the 1984 film Dune. In the Dune books there are a number of mental and physical training schools, the Spacing Guild was one that emphasized mathematics.

I figured that made it uniquely fitting for me. :D

I think people take tattooing way too seriously. Who cares if someone gets a tattoo in another script or language? Many other languages and scripts are beautiful when written. Also, why do tattoos have to have some deep personal meaning to be valued? Tattoos can be fun and cute and interesting without having a 30 minute story behind them. My first one: spontaneous idea. It seemed like fun and I am known for being impulsive!

Your life is a speck of dust on the shelf of time. Someday you will likely be cremated or buried and your tats will be destroyed with your body. If you want a picture of Homer Simpson on your bum, go for it. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with putting thought into them, but I am saying they can be lovely without months of thought and work. ./endRant

Now. Here are a few of mine (please excuse the lighting/angles):

I hope it didn't take you 30 minutes to read the story behind mine.
