Unless iMessage is blocked in Russia, why would anyone need to use Telegram?... unless iMessage really isn't unbreakably encrypted as Apple claims it to be.

No one i know of in China uses iMessage...WeChat and QQ are dominate IM market. iMessage is probably only popular in North America. I know people in Asia do not use iMessage at all.

Are you saying Telegram was so egregious Apple ceased communication? They've ignored Telegram's attempts at updating the app?

I’m saying that there’s no reason to trust Telegram developers that Apple actually ceased communication. Out of the two sides I know which one is more trustworthy.

Fixed that for ya.;) For what it's worth, cursory examination says you're putting your faith in the wrong company. One company has risked a ban in it's home nation. The other has proven that money trumps all other considerations by removing apps (including their own) from the app store and storing data + encryption keys in China.

That's not say one is more trustworthy that the other. Your opinion that Apple is more trustworthy is just that, an opinion. Both companies are run by people. People are fallible. Neither company has done anything to cause me to look at them in a bad light.

Very well said. salud!

One give people rights, the other takes them away. Should be a no-brainer, no?
They both take away rights, both restricting user and business choice. And yes, people run businesses, so those are people's rights too. It's not like anyone's forced to hand over personal info these services.

Lol, what are the chances Apple's finicky iTunes Connect site just broke again when they were trying to upload, so Apple doesn't think they did it? I've encountered so many "unknown errors."

Whether or not you think Apple does the right thing, they've never lied about what they do, as far as we know. They maybe hide it or avoid mentioning it, but if they give a statement, it's trustworthy.

...They even have kneepads for their relationship with China. :D They are no different than any other company.
You mean in striking a balance with local government and local laws and still being Apple?

You’re right, every company wants to do the same thing. They are no different.

Apple has been creating a lot of negative press with App developers (Steam and now Telegram). As an app developer, why should I continue putting my trust in Apple and not just focus solely on Android? If enough developers do this, you'll have an app less platform. How well did that work out for Windows Phone?
Good luck on becoming an android developer concurrent with iOS developer.

Windows phone had to do with lack of talent; not talent leaving the platform.

Oh hey bud. Here's the rest of my comment. Probably got lost when you were crafting your reply. This should clear up any question about whether or not I think Apple does the right thing:

You can give up on Apple's platform but still sell on it by using React Native or something. That way you get to push updates through your own server and do nearly everything in a platform-agnostic way. Sad to abandon the much more proper and efficient Swift-based environment Apple has in favor of the cancer known as JS, but eh, Apple's tools are such a pain that that whole thing is often not worth the dev time.

I saw that part too, but this was about whose word we trust, and I don't see any reason to trust Telegram's over Apple's.

Or cause it just sucks. Disclaimer, I've never used it, so I don't know. But I can't imagine good things there.

One could easily say the same regarding trusting Apple over Telegram. Neither company has done anything to make me trust them less or trust one more than the other. Afaik, Telegram has done nothing to make you trust them less than Apple. It's just a preference.

edit: moot point anyway. It appears someone did something to clear up the issue. The app updates now.

Well it's one or the other, and Apple has been in business a lot longer and been tested way more than Telegram has.

Easy to say when you live in a free country like the US, not somewhere like Russia, UK, or China where you can be legally persecuted for innocent speech.

UK equivalent to China and Russia?

lulz we enter the David Icke Zone

There's not really much you can do about undesirable chatrooms until they're reported. Not really sure what else you want Telegram to do here.

That's the conundrum Telegram and other likewise apps find themselves in. They claim to be for freedom of information and data but the biggest beneficiaries are crime networks, market manipulators and corrupt politicians themselves. The regular guy/girl on the street doesn't care about these apps and just wants to have a satisfying job.
