Not often. A few times a month outside and then also around the house...but it really isn't a bother, IMO. I use it mostly as a portable desktop. The speakers really pull you in, even at low volume. I found the lack of keyboard deck speaker grills on the 15" MBA a bit odd.
Or wait for Costco to have their sale and get and m2 16"? :) think its usually 1,999!

In my opinion, weight is the only reason not to get what I assume is a 16” M1 Pro MBPro. The MBPro is superior in a lot of ways, most of which have been itemized above (much better screen, speakers, none throttled CPU, SD card slot, more IO etc.).

This. And, for me at least, the weight is totally manageable, and worth it considering you get all of the other benefits.

The nature of the 16 is that when I typed for long periods of time, the edge of the palm rest would dig into my wrists. It was much worse on the 14 but still a problem on the 16. Due to the thinness of the 15, that problem didn't exist in my case.
The 15 MBA is and overall more modern machine better for most. I had the 16 and sold it no problem! Totally sick of logging around on trips. The only other system I’d consider is the 14 m2 but it’s a little small. Sure I loved the 15, but I loved moving on. Kinda like max to the pro.

It also happens to me on my 2010 MBP, but then i thought there must be a solution and I found one! I will be getting one.
They come in various shapes and sizes/prices, but this is one of them:

I've been using these for almost a decade now. They protect my wrists from any surface no matter what I'm working on (Laptop, PC keyboard, Mouse, etc).

I'm using an M1 MacBook Pro 16" myself. My previous machine was a 2018 MacBook Pro 15" that my dad now uses. I found that one inch definitely makes the difference for me. The kiddos these days seem quite comfortable watching movies on their iPhones and so on, and maybe I'm weird to say this, but I've just never gotten small screens. Even the 16" is not ideal but I feel like it's just barely crossed the threshold where I can be comfortable using it for long periods. I didn't feel that way with the 15" screen.

Something else though that I think is worth factoring into this: support. An M2 is likely to enjoy an extra year more of support than an M1. I don't like going without security updates myself so I'm always wary of the idea of saving money buying the already long-replaced generation and then needing to pay for a new machine sooner. In that sense, $1700 for an M1 and $1700 for an M2 aren't actually the same cost.

All that said, I know what you are going through. I'm a really indecisive person myself and I know how awful these situations are. Hang in there.
Yeah I agree with you - better to hang on to the M2 machine for longevity.

They're also really nice computers. I finally saw one in person. I need to stay with the Pro line personally, but those 15" Airs are really great.

Well as the original poster, I returned the 16" and went back to a 15" Air. The 16 was very nice but the 15 fits my workload better, is much better to type on and I found the battery life slightly better. The weight and size of the 16 weren't as bad as I anticipated but if I kept it I would have added Applecare. That extra $400 is twice the cost of Applecare for the Air which I couldn't really justify. Thanks for the input though. Both machines are great.
good idea, no way you want to compromise with the m2, 14? Costco has them at $1700!

I know. You have to be dilusional or something! You can get a 16" M1 pro MBP with 32gb ram at Adorama with free shipping for 1800!
Do you mean, delusional about not getting the MBP over the air given the small price difference? I still don't see a size issue with the 14" like most see in this forum (being too small) I think its perfect size... I just remember taking my old 16" to Hawaii and it was pure misery, couldn't use on the plane, then everyone i was with was like " why did you bring such a big ass computer" lol

yes! If anyone sees at deal on the m2 16 base ($2,000k or under) lmk..
M1 is just as good and you dont need more than that probably (and by going m1 you can get more ram for the same price compared to a m2 of the same price which makes more difference than going from m1 to m2) by going with m1 you get deals like this, what you want, but better, 32gb ram!:
Or if you can stretch a little bit, you get a MAX chip and 64gb ram!:

When I traveled I had 2019 16" MBPro and took it all over the world with me with no problems, so travel was never an issue for me with the 16" systems. However the lack of ports on the Air is a often a problem for me and, surprisingly, the SD card slot on the MBPro is a major bonus for me (I always travel with a camera which uses SD cards, I sold my Canon R5 which used CF Express B cards). The Air is a nice machine (I have both the 15" M2 MBAir and 16" MBPro: M1 Max) but the 16" MBPro just feels like a more sophisticated machine with a lot of functional advantages so I am probably going to sell the 15" MBA as I use the 16" much more often.

I'm in the final week of my return window for the MBA 15 which I generally like... The sole problem is tons of deals for the M1 16...

Basically, I can get an M1 16" 16gb 1tb for the same price as an M2 15 MBA 16 GB 1tb ($1700). I don't need the power but feel torn passing up a much more powerful machine (and deal)...

Any advice is welco
What did you decide?

MBA 15... Light, excellent battery life and better keyboard.
Fascinating. Light, good battery life I can understand but better keyboard surprises me. I have both, a 15” MBA and an M1 Max 16” MBPro and the MBA is lot lighter but battery life is not much different for me and the keyboard on the MBPro is much better to my (possibly imaginary) senses. But each to his own and glad you have made a choice. You will love the machine so enjoy.

I think this is just a preference thing.. I much, much prefer the keyboard on the 14 pro over 15" air. Sure its me..
